On line Pharmacies have started following the malpractice

With the advent of online pharmacy like 1mg , I was little assured that it is going to provide us other cheaper alternates for the same salts. But recently my all hopes went down the drain when 1mg refused to provide me other cheaper alternative , with the same salt as prescribed by my doctor.

Although the cheaper brand with exactly same salt was available with 1 mg, it refused to send to me as the cheaper brand name was not mentioned on the prescription. more

It is good practice to give correct medicine written on prescription. It is doctors duty to give generic medicine. more
A couple of years back the government brought in a law making it compulsory for the doctors to write the names of the prescribed medicines in capital letters as also to write the combinations of each of the medicines being prescribed instead of writing any specific name thereof with the option to the patients to opt for the cheaper one as majority of the doctors get hefty commission from the manufacturers for prescribing their brand names and the medicines prices are inflated by adding such commission. By prescribing medicines with combinations, the scope for non-availability of medicines is also reduced to 'nil'. Had the law been strictly implemented, the issues like the one referred to in this post could have also been avoided. However, I am not aware of the latest position of the said law. more
If a person wants alternate medicine, with same salt, then there should be no problem in supplying the alternate medicine. The prescription is meant to check whether correct medicines( as per the requirement is given. when a pharmacy can easily give alternate medicines, I do not find any reason in denying alternate medicines by online store. Moreover, when govt of India is trying to provide cheaper medicines through jan aushdhi kendra, it will only supplement in govt efforts to provide cheap medicines to the citizens more
I would not agree that it is a malpractice from online pharmacies. They have strict regulations and do not want to get caught in regulatory compliance issues. From patient perspective to mitigate this ask your physician to write on the prescription something like this. "Alternate brands can be given".If still they refuse ask the customer care to review the prescription again and you will get low cost alternative. Hope this helps. more
I agree too. Online pharmacies need to have a tight leash because anyway leeway may lead to misuse. This could mean a little inconvenience but it's always better to be safe than sorry. more
On line pharmacys require firm regulation by Govt. to stop malpractices. more
