One minister tells "People should be careful while consuming fruits and vegetables. They may contain colour and chemicals that can lead to serious health problems." No responsible persons should ever give such a statement creating fear among people to consume vegetables and fruits- that too a minister- Already people are avoiding fruits and vegetables due to lack of awareness of their importance in diet and also due to lack of empowerment for purchasing them. As doctor and teacher I can confidently say that most diseases we see are directly and indirectly due to decreased intakes of vegetables and fruits. The people actually need awareness about the importance of consuming vegetables and fruits three times a day and they need to be empowered for that- that is the job of responsible bodies- they are also responsible for safety of these items- they need not even tell the people about safety issue- they have to see that it is safe by virtue of their power and authority. Here the same people who are responsible for all these are telling people to be careful ---!!!! very strange India. more

Perhaps Government is doing a yeoman service to people by hiking the prices of basic vegetables like Tomatoes, Onion, Chick Peas & Cauliflower....on other hand the saffronization of states ensures that non-vegetarian items are neither available nor sold...double whammy for Indians in India. more

In my view, there is nothing wrong in saying "be careful". The public need to be careful in consuming as most of the products are nowadays adulterated. It is the responsibilities of the users/consumers to report the matter to the appropriate authorities and compel these authorities to take action. If we sit quite thinking that the authorities will be taking suo-motto action then possibly we will not be able to have robust quality system. more

Mam, Agreed. But the same advisory also facilitate person to be careful and avoid purchase and then report to the concerned authorities about any violation. Dont you agree that police also issue advise to be careful when going out of your home locking your house or driving vehicle during fog etc. The complaint ultimately has to be filed by the sufferer to get relief. Suo motto action might be taken by the authorities through enactments, regulations etc. but again the authorities need to be informed of any violations in the regulations or improvement/ addition in the regulations. This is my general view and excise me for any difference in our opinion. more
