One Nation One Poll - Implementation Ideas

We are happy to see the President of India support the idea of One Nation One Poll. Below are your key inputs (pros and cons) on conducting simultaneous elections for Central and State Governments in India. Kindly review and share how the Election Commission should go about organizing them.

Once we have your inputs, we will take this up with the Election Commission so a broader dialogue and actions can be taken on this front.

We look forward to your inputs!

Pros
1. The state Governments and Central Government will be able to work more in sync
1.Efficiency in Governance will increase
2.There will be productivity and focus rather than politics
3.Conducting elections simultaneously will put responsibility on people to elect a team
4.It might also save the country a lot of money
5.It will drive the Central Parties to also focus on local development issues
6.The amount of black money which is in circulation due to elections always will reduce

Cons
7.A non-performing Government could last an entire 5 year term
8.Development might take a back seat since the entire machinery will be engaged in preparing for the election process
9.By holding simultaneous elections, central, state and local body will get combined and the most favoured of the time could sweep all elections
10.A party which may be good for the centre at a given time may not be good for local body or vice-versa
11.Infrastructure & man power to conduct the elections will become difficult to manage
12. It will take a long time to finish the election process together
13.In India there are so many state level parties that it is rather difficult for the Central Government to cajole these state level parties to accept having the elections together. more

https://www.deccanherald.com/india/simultaneous-polls-would-subvert-democracy-federalism-opposition-parties-congress-aap-tmc-on-one-nation-one-election-2936548 Opposition parties like the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI(M), TMC, and others, and the Samajwadi Party opposed the idea of holding simultaneous polls in the country alleging that such an exercise would undermine parliamentary democracy and federalism. the Congress, in a written communique, opposed the idea, contending that implementing simultaneous elections would result in “substantial changes to the basic structure of the Constitution”. The party asserted that it would go against the "guarantees of federalism" and "subvert the parliamentary democracy". It further stated that the "argument that cost of conducting elections are extremely high seems baseless” and “felt that people will be willing to consider this small amount as the cost of free and fair elections to uphold democracy”. TMC also contended that forcing the Vidhan Sabha to go for premature elections just for the sake of contemporaneity would be unconstitutional and ultimately lead to the suppression of state issues. more

It is a very good idea no doubt but there should be electoral reforms to minimize the parties(2 to 3),accordingly the the state lvl. parties should be aligned with the central level. more
One Nation One Poll helps Unity in Political Parties, cautions internal corrections, inspire realizations, reduces Selfish influence in Rule, and economically befits more
Electoral reforms must precede the one nation one poll move. more
At 63 I have seen simultaneous elections only for long in Tamilnadu or Madras state then. I do not have any idea of this in other states, but I believe that would have been the same in other states also. I wonder why it was changed, or whether there was any motive BEHIND to change that system? One thing, as on date is clear. Any amount of laws enacted can not change faults happening 'continuously'. So instead of finding possible faults with simultaneous elections, we need to accept that and keep solving other issues, which on any account are always there. Nothing new in that. WE HAVE MORE EXPERTS IN FINDING LOOP HOLES IN EVERY LAW, NEW OR OLD! I prefer AND DEMAND SIMULTANEOUS ELCTIONS more
