Online frauds using Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and other platforms: Inputs Sought

Some of you in the online communities for Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Department of Legal Metrology and other circles have been highlighting how buying and selling is taking place via Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp and the issues that come up. These include both sales of products and services

With this post we would like to seek your inputs on what are the kinds of issues you faced when buying something over whatsapp, facebook, instagram and if there were any fraudulent activities that took place with you or family/friends.

Also, if you observed sales of any illegal products or services on such social platforms, kindly advise.

The objective is to first understand the problem and then we will have a separate discussion on how this can be fixed through policy, regulation and enforcement. more

I was also a victim of online purchase frauds. On the experience i got I found the following defects in the online advertisements: 1.Price of the product not mentioned, 2. MRP rates are not mentioned. 3.Manufacturer name not mentioned, 4. even nme of the products are not mentioned, 5. in case of drugs for what purpose it is intended for has not been mentioned, 6. When purchased through online through DEBIT CARDS etc, the advertiser do not exhibit whether the transaction is successful or not.7. In respect of DONATIONS, the other party do not send the send the OFFICIAL RECEIPT either through post or even send soft copy through mail. Many times they claim that the donations enjoy 80G IT benefits. The GOI must check such fraud advertisements. more
I had purchased many items through Amazon online. The items are shipped from manufacturers sources. Most of the items I received were with some minor defects, which I feel rejected by the Quality Control Wing. In use only we come to know, beyond return period. It is better direct purchase. more
I was victim of online fraud in March-2018, A person name praveen kumar created fake FB profile and created job group related to marine, my brother contacted him over telephone for the job he provided the Seamen VISA letter, job offer letter and immigration documents, the joining was from Istanbul, to my surprise Mumbai Airport gave the clearance to my brother during immigration check with that fake letter, he went to Istanbul airport where he was detained by authority since they have strict policy and immediately they pt my brother in room with victims of similar fraud including countries like srilanka, Bangladesh and other states of India. Some how he managed to came back to india with the help of Indian embassy at Istanbul, we paid that fake agent INR 75000 (Excluding one way Air fare) in advance, later we filed FIR in Mumbai nothing happened, even I wrote external ministry asking them to atleast bring some strict policies against online fraud like this but so far nothing happened and that fake Facebook porifle is still active and i don't know how many job seekers like my brother have become his victim. more

Facebook has officially announced facebook promo awards 2019. One of their agent M/S. Moran Tanya is contacting the winner and asking for money for Tax CERTIFICATE and courier charges. This scheme is genuine but the agent Moran Tanya is playing dirty. Some people she takes away the money and divert the award to others. I have also paid 2050 USD but she did not sent the check to me. I have been trying to reach the FB top executives but looks my msgs are not reaching them. I attach list of winner and my name is at serial number 44. If someone can help me to pass my mg to top FB executive I can more details. more
