Online Reservation System

A train runs between station 1 and station 10 with intermediate stations 2, 3, 4,.....9.

You search the IRCTC site and find a birth vacant for the day of your choice and book your birth to travel from station 5 to station 10.

This particular berth is now vacant from station 1 to station 5.

Immediately after that another person searches the site for a birth for the same day in the same train for travelling from station 1 to station 5. The site will not show this clear vacancy of that berth from station 1 to station 5.

May I suggest that the software may kindly be upgraded to show partial vacancies such as the one described in the above example and allot them online in the next few minutes to the passenger who is interested in travelling against that vacancy. more

in case of woman being pregnant, not able to claim to middle or upper berth or if a person is travelling for medical treatment ; these options cannot be entered in online booking as to consider their request more  
I've just booked another set of tickets, from 2-3, then 4-5, then 6-7, and without selecting seat preferences got the same seats for each sector (details below), I hope this finally shows that this thread is about people not understanding the booking system, and not about any faults with it. I booked the Ernad Express (train 16606) for 25th May, it runs from Nagacoil to Mangalore, I booked for 4 persons as I was trying to establish if a booking for 4 persons counted as 1 booking or 4. I booked Trivandrum to Varkala (PNR 4116538366) I booked Kollam to Alleppey (PNR 4629350825) I booked Ernakulam to Shorannur (PNR 4836422506) I got coach D1 and seats 91, 92, 93 & 94 for all 3 journeys, and the availability for Nagacoil-Mangalore went down from 289 to 285. It's a very reactive booking system, and I'm sure there's always a reason why it may seem like it doesn't work well, if you have an example of it not working, please give details, train number, boarding station, destination station and class, then we can look into it. more  
It is unfortunate that the burden of the 7th Pay commission is beyond the scope of Railways on account of their financial condition. Thi is not only with the Railways but also with all the Central Govt Depts. I have a suggestion ,Why we should have pay commission every time . Is it mandatory. Can not dispense with this reveiw of pay on regular basis ,when there is an in-built system of increments and the moving Dearness allowance. It may not be a surprise that the entire taxes are income genrated out of various Govt Services shall not be sufficient to meet the ever growing salaries. Further, the suggestion for meeting the the burden of 7th pay commission by selling the properties of the railways. If this is suggested one day we have to sell our Rail Engines , Bogies ,Trac and Railway stations even to meet 7th,8th ,9th .... pay commissions etc.,This is rediculous to fall on. I suggest that, - First of all avoid any further hike in the pay structure. Howmany pay commissions are appointed in case of private sector organisations. Why these pay commissions only for Govt servents. _ Is private sector not attracting the talented - Did at any time the productivity of individual is assessed by the Govt Dept. - Let there be some group discussion by the meida calling the the talented to offer their suggerstions , to over come this pay revisions from to time. I am not in favour of selling the prpoerties to meet the salary burdens. Mr. k.Ramulu more
