Optional Catering in premium trains is source of revenue leakage

Recently some family members travelled in Rajdhani to Bangalore. The folks did not take any meal option and carried their own food.

Because of the optional meal in Rajdhani somehow the catering servers are left with lots of meals and food items. As a result they are selling them without bill at half price.

When they can’t sell, they are giving away individual items with an understanding of getting a solid tip at the end.

It is constitutional right of our Hafftakhor rail babus to sell these seats and they are doing it. Even in Rajdhani, Surat quota seats are openly sold to passengers upto Surat. Every one including Board know it yet every goon and robber is silent because he is getting his share. more
Since booking details and food choice is available through IRCTC error should not be more than 2_3%, which is acceptable level.Contractor should technology available to get exact number of food packets required. more
Strict control over the Catering contractor must be exercised wherever the canteen facility is provided in trains. These contractors fool the passengers by even over charging for all the services- Breakfast, Lunch etc. Also on Tea/coffee and all other items which are sold to passengers inside the trains. Passengers MUST demand STAMPED RECEIPTS from the contractors. Thus action can be initiated against such contractors at a later date. more
Catering is business. Customer has to have option to buy or not to buy. In business profit and loss happens. Customer should not be forced to buy, when punctuality and quality are not assured. more
Catering in premium trains should continue and there should be no other option, as there are limited stoppage. more
