Outside of commute and travel what are the other places where you have experienced or observed VIP culture in the last 3 years?
Senior police officials always tell you that they are so understaffed that they can’t police the city properly. I have heard this from ADG and DGP level officers of atleast 5 states.
However to see how poorly utilised police is u have to just go to a VIP party like marriage for example. So many policemen can be found there it’s unbelievable.
There is an urgent need in India to optimize how police functions and it need not be all push based but instead be pull based with strong rules about where they can and cant be and if found violating than it means 3 year suspension from service.

These netas should be asked to arrange for their own security. No police force should be used for this. Even a standard can be set as to whom to give government security eg. Only ministers and above get this service. more

The DGP has rightly said that they don't have sufficient man power. A large posse of police/Central police personnel are deployed 24x7 for the security of existing and Ex MPs/MLAs/councilors as there is 'threat perception' to their lives. Many such politicians ask their well wishers to give them threatening calls so that they ask for security. There is urgent need to review the deployment of security personnel to all VIPs and cut the same y 60%. Recently, the Punjab CM has increased his personal security by 30%. How a person becomes KOHINOOR after becoming neta ? This is gross mis-use of tax payers money viz-a-viz denial of policing to common man. Tax payers money should not be exclusively used for the welfare of just 5% people (elected & selected members of Govt. machinery) as the rest are also citizens of India. more

VIPs, VVIPs like MLAs & MPs or even with governing party private functions utilize lot of police security, as if somebody is going to kill or kidnap them otherwise. This is because of their insecure minds and because they know that they have done a lot wrong for the people that they may get harmed someday. But there must be rules for deploying police forces in such functions, & if not, it should be framed so that the misuse can be stopped and proper deployment of police force for the real protection of the public must be done more

Govindji is right. We normally don't wish to dilute the sanctity of the Temple norms and wait for our turn for any Puja. Because of this VIP obsession sometimes we never get our turn. I once saw police clearing the road shouting, whistling , siren etc..( as I peeped into the vehicle) it was the Deputy Chief Minister going from BJP Office to, may be, his home some 700 meters away. I felt he was visibly embarrassed . Very unusual sight 😃 more
