Over charging and insensitive behaviour of corporate hospital

My younger brother felt uneasiness at his office on 12th April morning at 11.40 a. m. he was rushed to nearby hospital immediately within 20 minutes, the hospital staff insisted for deposit of Rs 50000 before admitting the serious patient, any how we managed it than they started to do the pumping and shock therapy on patient in emergency room . After half an hour they told us that angiography, angioplasty will be necessary for the patient so deposit and manage Rs 260000 immediately but they didn't give any update of patient, or they didn't allow anyone of us to see the patient who is on ventilator, suddenly at 2.35 PM one staff member came to us and told that there is no hope and chance and we are asked to arrange amount for baloon therapy, we were in big shock of sudden demise of our younger brother, who doesn't have any history of any cardiac problem and the doctors and staff of hospital were busy in discussion and planning that how to collect more money from us at that stage . When we asked for the body of our beloved brother, they insisted on paying the over charged bill which mention the treatment charges and other medical materials charges up to time of 03:55 pm. When the hospital officially declared and mentioned the time of demise 02:35 pm, on all the documents what kind of treatment they were giving to the patient after he had been declared dead. more

First two sentences of Mr. V.K.Mishra are only the preamble of an epic. Some 3-4 decades past, Government Hospitals in West Bengal used to be ridiculed as 'one way hospitals'. But, it seems that the same holds true for all hospitals ( whether Govt. or Private) in all states - mass death of patients due to asphyxiation from smoke (Kolkata, West Bengal)',mass death of children (Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh), Leg operated for head injury ( Delhi), ......list would be endless. Government doll to patients, or to the family members etc. are only eye wash. There must be a regulatory body for examination of health care facilities in all hospitals (whether Govt. or Private) including the costing of treatments. more
Corporate Hospitals are blood suckers and they love to collect money without hesitation. Government is knowingly sleeping. more
Why you have not mentioned the name of the Hospital? You must complain to the state Govt. an more
Firstly, I have full sympathy for Mr Sheikh and his family. Systematic failure of Governments in so many years in health care necessitated mushrooming of private hospitals. No regulatory body has given free hand to private hospitals to fleece patients and their family members. PM Modi has approved Govt healthcare plan with cashless treatment upto 5 Lakh per annum per family. However, the scheme is yet to roll out for public. 2019 Election if results are otherwise, the program may get even shelved. Health insurance through insurance providers can help a family in sharing the unexpected expenditure for health treatment. more
I have full sympathy for Mr Sheikh and his family. I feel Mr Sunil Srivatava advice is right. However, from my personal experience I have the following answers to Mr Sheikh's doubts (1) If the patient is on ventilator Dr may try to revive the patient for a while with in a few seconds of death. But not so long as mentioned. (2) Even when a man is alive but aged and weak Dr would not do angiogrphy or angioplasy without clear consent of the patient/patient's kin. (3) Yes it is usually done. (4) Not sure what answer could be. At times hospital staff keep the relatives of the patient present on the spot informed about the patient's condition from time to time. more
