Packaging Charge instead of Service Charge at Restaurants
Some Restaurants have started levying a 10% packaging charge now instead of the Service Charge. See attached.
Requesting Ministry of Consumer Affairs to take action against this and come out with necessary guidelines.

Unjustifiable charge. Charge must be on actuals basis. Savings on service charge accrue to the eatery after all, while they earn from food sales. On another note, but same topic, carry a reusable cup made of metal or glass in trains and keep one in your car so that when one feels the need for having a golgappa or chaat, simply use these as receptacles for the dishes being served. Prevent proliferating plastic crockery and cutlery this way. more

Govt will enact guidelines to protect the business interest of the restaurant. You have to pay as per guidelines. more

This is not justified. The restaurants can charge actual packaging charges only, but not 10% of the cost and GST over and above. more
