PANTRY ISSUE

lots of contractors are overcharging about Rs 50 per plate for Lunch and Dinner, even though railway has declared a nominal price list for Lunch and Dinner. Why so? for example Prashanti Express caterers are charging a veg meal of Rs 100 and a non veg meal Rs 130 per plate without water. Why so? Its not only the one train, there are 1000 of trains where caterers are overcharging. And even after overcharging the food quality is so bad that its hard to discuss. more

Trains between Bangalore and Chennai have IRCTC sales persons shouting at the the top of their voice about different items and it is a continuous affair throughout the 6-hour journey, leaving no peace or privacy for the travelling public. This practice must be curtailed. Where is need for this practice when the train is vestibule-d? People can as well walk in to the pantry car and get what they want. The pantry car should be suitably redesigned for such an accommodation. Though I have identified one sector it is the same story in all day-trains. more
@R V K Babu: Thanks for the information. However, I shall make a notice to you that as per railway there are standard price for Veg and Non veg meals and varies from class to class. Sleeper class standard meal price is Rs 35 without paneer item. And including paneer item it is Rs 50 per plate. Now, In Rs 35 the item shall be 2 chapatti/parota/3puri, Daal, rice, one veg curry, salt, pickle, water 200ml. And For Rs 50 mutter paneer is added. Its the standard menu declared by Railway and instructed the same to all the vendors of Pantry. Now, these contractors are charging almost double and giving onle, 2 chapatti, rice, dal, one veg curry. In ordinary/express trains this is the one which is applicable in all classes. In Rajdhani/Duronto/Shatabdi/Premium trains this rate varies as they have different menu with added items. Now, my question is are you getting the same? more
Can pantry have some menu or rate card with their sales persons? Water bottles are sold at Rs20. more
