PARKING MENACE IN TAMILNADU CITIES.

For the past some decades 70% of car owners are parking their cars on the roads and streets causing inconvenience to vehicular traffic and human traffic. This is mainly due to the fact that many house owners do not provide parking place in their houses or Builders do not provide adequate space for parking the cars of residents. Why this happen? Because of raising land cost and lack of strict control of municipal authorities in approving the apartment plans, so much so the builders try to take maximum space for sale. The State Govts should invariably take stringent action on such builders. Moreover, the GOI must enact a law that when vehicles are purchased, and get them registered they must show adequate car parking space for their cars. In my area there are two dozens of car are parked on either side of the road and some individuals are owning 2 or 3 cars and parking one the roads. The GOI should take immediate action on such situation. Any comments? more

The basic reason is, there are more cars on the road above the capacity of the roads. Car is a commodity owned by every middle class and above and aspired to own by every citizen of india. Unless proper town planning is done, not possible to correct the system. more
This is prevalent not only in TN cities but all major cities of the country more
That does not solve the mistakes and problems. more
In case Govt. makes it compulsory, as is being done in Singapore, for car owners to have a parking place within the perimeter of their property/house, sale of cars would go down and there would be hue and cry by car dealers/manufacturers citing loss to economy and employment opportunities. It is another matter if such Govt. orders would make our population more discipline, cleaner cities and less pollution. more
The menace is not only in TamilNadu, but in many states/cities. The subject calls for a serious State as also National review, because of parking menace emergency vehicles - like ambulances, fire tenders, etc. do not get even the minimum space to move. Fire tenders, even after positioning, cannot lay the hoses to nearest water source(s), hydrant(s), etc. more
we are very happy that at least you have realise the gravity of the situation and the untold problems encountered by public. In a house in my area a person who is is millionaire and owns many houses recently occupied a house for rent where there is no space even park on big car freely. But he is parking 1 car and 3 wheelers inside his premises and three cars on the road due to which heavy traffic jam occurs on many occasions. more
Parking on Roadsides are done not only by car owners but also by Lorry drivers, trucks drivers, Auto Rickshaw drivers and many many automobiles and big JCB vehicles etc are parked on Highway side as well as road sides. This is because these owners do not have adequate parking space for their vehicles. Govt.of India must amend the rules so that when ever a person purchase a vehicle, he must provide adequate proof to show that he has parking space with plan sketch approved by the municipal authorities. more
