passport renewal ?

My passport was issued from Delhi and now I wanted to renew it on my noida address where i moved long time back.
i'm working in chennai from past 1 year.Some one please help me with the whole TATKAL process. I have checked the passport website also but I wanted hear it from someone who had experienced it.Your effort will be highly appreciated.

But on website its mentioned that online appointment is required for TATKAL process too and Process is better in New Delhi but ghaziabad is hell....In my case as m working in chennai so should i tell them that or not coz the documents regarding job is not required I believe....please put some light on this..Thanks more

One correction on Mohinder ji's comment, in Tatkal the passport is issued without prior police verification, but the same is done post passport issuance which is normally within 3 weeks of the application. The passport verification will be done at your present address, and the application to be filed in same city or nearest passport seva kendra of your current residence. more

The procedure has now been simplified. You have to apply and also pay the fee online, which takes just 15 minutes flat. You are given an appointment for personal appearance at the passport office. Carry with you all the originals and photocopies of documents required. If the residential address has changed, you will have to produce proof of your present address. In case of Tatkal passport, no online appointment is required. You can just walk in with all the documents. Tatkal PP is issued without police verification within a week's time (perhaps earlier). Application fee is double in this case. I got my passport renewed only recently at New Delhi, though under normal procedure which also took only three weeks including police verification. more

I had very bad experience last month when my son went to get passport renewed in tatkal. He was to renew his passport, change his address, add his wife's name. As per the website he filled the form online and carried with him all the relevant documents mentioned in the website rules and documents required. Upon the visit date when he entered the office of P.O. the first counter clerks said after checking the documents that he has to go back and get a character certificate from a gazetted officer also. He said it is not mention on your website but he was new to this tatkal process and ran to notary, looking for a gazetted officer at that middle of the day. He wasted nearly the wholeday but but could not find any known person. then at 3 pm I told him to approach the Dy. Passport officer sitting on the first floor, of that same building. that Dy. P.O. heard his case and said that fresh character certificate is not required in case of renewals of passports where police verification had already been done once at the time of initial issue of passport. So he wrote on the application "not required" and my son went back to the counter clerk and got his application cleared. And do you know what the clerk said, that "this new Dy.P.O. has the guts to challenge us old clerks What does he think of himself, he will teach us. Now we have no choice we will have to do it now." I reported the matter to MEA but sorry to say no reply received as yet. BUT HE GOT HIS police verification done in 3 days and the PASSPORT IN 7 DAYS Always study website thoroughly, keep all documents in original, DONOT hesitate to meet the higher authorities immediately. if any more information wanted please contact me on phone. more

I have a similar question. The permanent residence mentioned on my passport is my Kolkata residence. However for the last 4 years I am living in Delhi on rent. Which address proof should I use ? Can I retain my Kolkata address while applying in Delhi ? more
