People who are travelling with unreserved tickets generally are found entering the reserved coaches even though the coach is full. Agreed that they have the right to check with TTE to see if there is any seat available and can travel. This happens a lot in Lalbagh express bound to chennai where in people who have booked the tickets in the coach cant even make a step out or go to the rest room and this happens till Arakkonam. TTE's escape from coming into the coaches there by failing to do their duty. In such circumstances, it should be considered as a
UN-MANNED Coach and the TTE should be fined heavily and making sure that stringent action should be taken against him for allowing the passengers inside the coach where he is supposed to check the tickets. more

ya its fact it is not only the problem of chennai but it is all over india. this problem must be taken care seriously more
Travelling by railway is too cheap. Currently Railways have only one mechanism to fix prices, which is distance and class of travel. There is only a nominal super-fast charge in comparatively faster trains. I think this needs a change, another parameter of speed should be actively added. And run more faster and costlier trains. more
Let us accumulate all the problems in railways. Major is ticket availability, affordability, food, travel time, corrupt practices by staff, security and unreserved people in reserved compartments, lack of unreserved compartments, non display of prices on the menu etc etc. We have to do a lot of out of box thinking. Firstly, we should make railway station secure from all sides and make checking of tickets at the entrance and exit a must for every passenger. Secondly, we should do away with waiting system in trains, if you have a seat, get in otherwise don't get in. If you cannot travel against a reserved seat, you loose all your money. With these two things, we can do away with major problems. There will be no need for TTE's and provide one attendant in each compartment or a set of two compartments instead for keeping hygiene and opening and closing of doors at the stations.. But this will crop another problem for non-reserved category. My suggestion to this problem is that rather than attaching un-reserved compartments to each train, trains should either be reserved or nor reserved at all. And prices should match the demand, speed and category of the reserved class. Now, food. My question is, why is it a responsibility of railway to provide cheap food. Let the caterer decide the prices and demand and supply will stabilize the prices or supply food on air plane style of trolleys with displayed price list. Better still we can have a small pantry car every 4 compartments to sell various products. more
Some more ideas i have 1. In tatkal quota there is no refund for confirmed tickets against cancellation. So people do not care for cancellation. If there is some refund people will go for it and some waiting listed people may got birth. Otherwise railway has to refund total amount of waiting listed ticket. 2.An extra two tier coach for top 100 waiting listed passengers may be run by railway to provide atleast sitting confirmed accomodation. And then the entry of waiting listed passengers shall be restricted. TTE will informe them where they are sitted. more
Based on the number of waiting list, they must provide addl. bogie. When ever thro' etickets it is done based on WL display and display saying book, the railways should find a solution for accomodation or alternatively that display to be removed. more
