Personal Hygiene

What’s the deal with personal hygiene? How come filthy habits and disgusting toilet etiquette has become acceptable among all categories: the educated, wealthy, intellectuals & spiritual seekers? Women or Men the sense of hygiene is as bad.

Can we discuss this and perhaps LC can take up a survey?

We hardly give any importance to hygiene. Public Toilets are firstly not available or if available then they are dirty.
Most appropriate question at the present juncture. Personal hygiene and public hygiene. Some may be very spic and span at home; Like they don't keep a trash bag overnight to clear it next day when the Trash collecting staff come. They throw it in the night itself. What can you expect of people of tis sort.
Very helpful. Action is required at all levels - home, public and Govt.
these days life has become very fast and especially the ones travelling by metro dont seem to care. Public toilets are nothing but urine and shit pools. nice to see someone caring about hygiene. there is a huge pile of garbage covering entire road at wazirabad bus stop. I am seeing it for a year and pretty sure its been there even before. 20-30 Cows cover the entire road eating the dump all the time. Traffic slows there, and can cause accidents, and it is also not good for the cows. I have even tweeted this to MCG, and followed up but it doesnt respond. But i can only change myself. we should discuss how we can bring a change. fines for example should be a good deterrent. throwing garbage carelessly, leaving toilet dirty. Smelling good should be awarded lol
My sister's household adult-help stated that she did not know some of the hygienic practices that she learned from my sister. Do parents teach their children hygienic practices? That's the starting point, and it can be built up. Also, adults that have no idea of what is hygiene must be educated. For example, it is of no use in building restrooms and expect common people to use it properly; they just don't know. As for the educated, Education does not teach hygiene. Our Vedas teach, but no one pays attention to them. Also, they are written in Sanskrit, and any translation cannot be understood by the common. In addition, water availability is another challenge. It is a combination of factors, infrastructure, education, discipline, sense of pride in cleanliness, a host of other considerations. Can Local Circles help? Can the government help? I don't think so.
