Pigeon Menace

We all discuss dog and stray animal menace quite often on LocalCircles and even surveys are done and come in national media. But in Chenna we have major pigeon menace. There is too many pigeons and too kuch pigeon shit.

What can be done to address this? Do other cities have this too. Pigeon feeders I feel are contributing to this. What is everyone’s views more

people should not feed pigeons which are harassing commoners and drive them away by each resident. more
In this regard I would like to share a story That follows, I was working as Store In-charge for a construction company having inventory worth more than 20 crores. Our store shed was made of CGI Sheets at sides as well as on top. Size of store was around L 50mX W12m X H 10 m. This was a very busy place throughout the day but an irritating habitat for 100s of pigeons for night. They accompanied us continuously for more than two years. After two years we had to stack old and used / damaged lead acid batteries returned from site, in side of the store for disposal or recycling purpose. Sometimes number of such batteries reached more than 100 before disposal. After 2 months we observed that pigeons were no more staying inside the store shed, and it was surprising to us. I think sensory organs in pigeons are far superior than humans which sensed hazardous vapours emitted from lead acid batteries which we could not. 6 months after vacating the shed from batteries few pigeons started coming back. This incidence made us believe that a flourishing Flora and Fauna in our vicinity is a live proof that the environment is Eco Friendly and we are safe in it. more
Stop feeding pigeons. Catch them. Send them to interior of forests more
Yes Pigeons are becoming a menace. Their droppings are really smelly and cause discomfort and also maybe disease. . Other bird populations must be affected because of them. But still people feed them like no other. Parrots, sparrows, bulbulls and so many others, so nice but we rarely see them. On Sun, 9 Apr 2023 at 04:41, Reeta Kumar wrote: > more
There are vendors who fix sharp objects made of hard plastic that can withstand external weather conditions fixed around buildings (Balcony walls, Sunshades etc) that refrain pigeons from standing or constructing nest on it. You can google for vendors & try this option instead of attempting to change others...... more
