platform vis-a-vis train coach height mismatch

After introduction of new EMU coaches in Eastern and South-Eastern Railways, the platforms of the local stations have become almost approx 18 inches lower than the train foot board causing immense difficulties for the senior citizens and also the persons having trouble in lower limbs including challenged persons to board in and get down from the coaches.
The platforms are, therefore, to be brought up to the level of the train foot board to make commuters comfortable. more

I had made quite caustic remarks in this column on this subject, quite a few months before - possibly over a year, with special reference to DumDum Jn. Railway Station. It seems the Railway Officials are not bothered. Presumably, they are aware ihat in case of a mishap, Railway Minister will announce a monetary compensation .State Govt. officials are also not bothered, since Railways are under the administration of Central Govt. However, in case of any mishap, display of magnanimity, likewise, throwing some money to the victim(s) or their family is a handy process. more

I am also a daily commuter in sealdah division of EASTERN railway and face very difficulty in boarding and deboarding the trains. Ladies and elderly persons face a larger problem. The gap has become so much that accident can happen any time. Platforms should be made at least one foot to one and half foot higher. The authorities should have taken into account this problem before introducing this new rakes. more
