PM 2.5 may touch 700 in Nov this year

Last year the contribution of stubble burning to Delhi PM 2.5 was 44%. Last year we had PM 2.5 of 40 in September on average and on Nov 3rd we had 1000 in Delhi NCR.

We have PM 2.5 on average of 30 this year in Aug Sep. Minor efforts are only there by Punjab and Haryana Governments.

Basis last years number and assuming somewhat lesser people on road due COVID (offset by festive time as Diwali is late), my estimate is Delhi NCR will have PM 2.5 of 700 this year. Out of this 700, 300 will be Punjab Haryana contribution.

I suggest we raise this issue big time if we want the situation to be better than that.

Please speak up people and raise this on your social media if you and your family in north india want to breathe better. COVID morbidity will worsen during Oct-Dec so let us act. more

Diwali is approaching and we will see again, the same burst of crackers. I request all, to start the campaigns from now onward itself to prevent this damage. At last moment, the issue keeps lingering here and there and no actual chage is visible in community. more

No doubt the situation is alarming but why we only focus on stubble burning. There are other developments in the Delhi City its self contributing to the present situation like Thermal Power Stations and transport system. The Farmer was doing this for centuries. The only difference is the left out stubble length is increased due to Machine Harvesting, may be adding a small percentage of increase in burning quantity of stubble. When the discussion came in this very circle couple of years back I requested the authorities to put value to left out stubble so that no Farmer will burn it. Look at the thermal Plants added to Delhi state over the years and licenced to pollute. With the Grid system in place power can be produced at less effected areas and connected to Delhi Homes. I am not against the power plants but for not adhering to pollution control guide lines is no excuse. Attached here with an abstract from "Off-Target -status of Thermal Power Plants in Delhi NCR" for for information and justification of my point. more
