Pokemon Go and Citizen Safety

The smartphone game Pokemon Go has gone viral and is being played by citizens while driving or walking around on streets even going into unknown neighborhoods/areas trying to catch pokemons. The game is designed such that it shares your GPS location with others making players susceptible to crime. These are just some of the potential hazards. Several police forces have issued advisories on it.

With this post we wanted to create the awareness as well as seek your inputs on other issues you may be aware of. Once we get everyone's inputs and understand all the issues, we will have a discussion on what solutions must be implemented to ensure that entertainment does not compromise the safety of the citizen and fellow citizens.

We look forward to your inputs!

If the game is risky why not ban it till it is made safe? more
Such games are brain child of software specialists. These specialists are so crazy that their designs sometimes gets very wild. The platform on which games are made are virtual. But in some games like in Pokemon these specialists have added real environment also. So that a number of players emerge from virtual to real and meet outside to make it a group activity. Getting out into the field also based on the inputs provided from the virtual. We have several games which took place in a ground or court earmarked for it. These ground or court has specified dimensions and located away from busy areas and rules are there for the players to follow. Unlike in cricket or football grounds Pokemon play uses busy roads or wherever the it lead to. So naturally the players are at risk. Then it also provides location via GPS. Game can reach such a stage that causalities or even crimes can happen. `Players go mad after the directions in the play` has to be viewed seriously. Games should not drive a society into such risks. The makers should re design it. If require it can be played in a field or ground earmarked for it. Sharing of location via GPS through electronic gadgets can be utilized for other heinous activities. So it needs to be viewed seriously more
