The overcharging of sofdrinks above the MRP is since decades in India. Initially, sofdrinks were considered to be a luxury/previlege, But, after economic liberalization following entry of Multinational Sofdrink giants and the competition the sofdrinks came under the category of daily needs of general public in the middle/upper middle class as well. However, the same are being still overcharged above the MRP iby almost 80% vendors/sellers in India under the pretext of cooling/refrigeration charges, luxury/service charges in Hotels & Restaurants, premium charges in malls/theaters/entertainments venues, etc. Why this double standard pricing for the same product is still going on? Is it the government laws & polices to be blamed or the mentality of us citizens who still have the mentality of Autocracy, who differentiated their subjects into various categories namely the financial category to loot them. more
We cannot do anything till the concerned authorities act on the so many complaints of over charging in our country. more
plz advice what we can do instead not to going such places. If one can afford such places does this mean he is supposed to pay more more
There is no point in going to costly restaurants, consuming items being sold at their terms and then making hue & cry. When you decide to dine in such restaurants, means you are well off and can afford their prices! A 2 lts bottle of any soft drink is available in the market at less than Rs.100 which does not mean that it will be available at the same price at the restaurants, which are providing you various kind of comforts and services. Displaying high living standard & cost concousness are contrary to each other. more
The Supreme court judgement is vague and open to exploitation of consumers. The Court should have capped the maximum margin the hotels, malls, airlines etc. can charge above the MRP. In any case case, it should not be more than 20% above the MRP. Lope sided laws/judgements do more harm than good to the society. more
One such sililar post by Sri Jayakumar Daniel on "Weights, Measures and MRP Enforcement " is posted on Loacal Circle itself. May be referred. more
