Policy on withdrawing life support

Kerala govt has formalised certification of brain death in cases where organ donation is not on cards. Doctors can now legally withdraw life support in such cases.
This will help doctors avoid extended life support and huge bills. Attached Notification.

Debate: Should all states of India bring this policy. Why not? more

I feel, onus should be on family members ( parents, son/daughter etc) to decide. Not the doctors. Doctors may suggest to the family members for organ donations in such cases. more
Recorded counselling on this issue before terminating the life support in the presence of a lawyer more
Seems like a good idea. If necessary check and balances are properly put in place, than this could also be a game changer for Organ Donation, as than the immediate relative/caregiver can be counseled with sufficient time in hand before the plug is pulled. more
It is a very hard / crucial time to see our loved ones on LSS. Practically speaking Docs cant say to remove the LSS on their own. never. They have always a faith and do their best to save the patient on LSS and give him or her an healthy life. We as the patients responsible / guardians should be more practical , get study the situations , to see the facts which are always true and help docs to take their decision. This removals of LSS can't be blamed only to Docs, never. Its the jointly act to remove the LSS. Considering the cost involved for keeping the LSS can't be explained in any budgetary digits. The lots of emotions are involved in this act, and in most of the cases the emotions are superseded on the daily budget involved. their must be a good communication in between Docs and the patients -guardians which can resolve this issue very respectfully and honestly to the avoid any conflicts or any legalities involved. Hope this notifications must be adopted by all states, but it is not a mechanical thing to do ,it requires lot of emotions based paper work which must prove that the removal of LSS is from patients side approvals and not only from Doc side. more
