As a democracy, we cannot implement China's methods of forced sterilization after one child. But we can grant cash incentives to those who accept sterilization after 2 children. There is bigger problem than an aging population. It is the balance between educated middle class birthrate and uneducated poor birthrate. Soon we will have a smaller tax paying population and a huge population that is poor and entitled to subsidies. Who will pay the bill??? more

Rising population is not an issue now, the emerging issues are: 1. Ageing of Indian population [rising number and proportion of 60+ people in India] and 2. Changing Religious Demography of India : Hindu Population Share is Declining - 2011 census data on religion not released yet. Please initiate a meaningful discussion on these issues - we cannot ignore it for long. more

With ever rising population, it is impossible to eradicate poverty as the focus would remain on some how providing jobs which may be menial thereby implying continued poverty and under development. For the nation to come to the standard of developed nations , we need to modernise agriculture, industry and use more of automation thereby reducing the number of jobs available. more
