Power bills of rich to go up further

The Government of India has introduced two changes to the prevailing power tariff system and power consumption at night will be charged at a higher rate. So all those who use ACs when sleeping get ready for a 10-20% increase in power bills.

I am amazed that such moves are announced without public consultation by the Government. Guess they knew educated and rich will oppose so why bother.

through an amendment to the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020. The changes are: introduction of Time of Day (ToD) Tariff, and rationalization of smart metering provisions.

Introduction of Time of Day (ToD) Tariff

Rather than being charged for electricity at the same rate at all times of the day, the price you pay for electricity will vary according to the time of day. Under the ToD Tariff system, Tariff during solar hours (duration of eight hours in a day as specified by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission) of the day shall be 10%-20% less than the normal tariff, while the tariff during peak hours will be 10 to 20 percent higher. ToD tariff would be applicable for Commercial and Industrial consumers having Maximum demand of 10 KW and above, from 1st April, 2024 and for all other consumers except agricultural consumers, latest from 1st April, 2025. Time of Day tariff shall be made effective immediately after installation of smart meters, for the consumers with smart meters. more

Govt. Can not make everybody Richer so they are making everybody poorer. It is Socialism . also Peoples should votes for freebies & rich peoples should go ion Vacation, Holiday during voting session. These will help in downsizing the Prices as everybody will get poor after some time. more
ToD tarriff equalises tarrifs with agricultural consumers whom the rich, target (saying agriculturists pay less for electricity). Two aims achieved thereby. Rich pay less and the ToD for all except agricultural consumers.Usage based base load normalisation efficiencies. Run dishwashers (for the rich affording the appliance) during lean hours, for example . more
Its not about dishwashers that run at night. The air conditioners/ air coolers are mainly used at night when people go to sleep. Now if use of air conditioners are to be questioned, then, why have them at all. Tax the object that you are questioning. more
inviting the corruption . Increase the production and stop such gimmicks. more
