Corruption is basically belief in privileges/entitlements of self at the cost of inconvenience to others, based on power attained by money, position, physical might etc. Though we look at money as the indication of corruption, that is very limited in scope. Any one who harasses another is corrupt Bus driver who cuts off bikes and autos on city roads is corrupt. Car driver who cuts of bikes, bike driver who cuts of pedestrians, a luxury car owner who cuts of smaller cars, etc, are all corrupt. Same with the usage of loud horns on roads. People who barricade around their walls and put up "no parking" signs around residences, preventing other people from parking are corrupt. People who have speed breakers on either sides of their houses are corrupt. People who do not hesitate to throw trash anywhere and every where are corrupt. People who DEMAND a plastic carry bag even for one milk packet, are corrupt. Anyone including judges, civil servants etc who uses the siren to get their way through traffic, is corrupt. And even more so when they are on private work. People who use government provided facilities to send children to school, for shopping, for sight seeing, for general travel are corrupt. A doctor who keeps patients waiting just because he/she can, is corrupt. People who play loud music on different occasions including weddings, festivals, public meetings etc causing inconvenience to numerous people around are corrupt. People who call for bandhs, destroy property for very flimsy reasons, are corrupt. People who conduct sporting and other events, which cause major traffic snarls are corrupt. People who spit paan residue or smoke in public spaces are corrupt. And ofcourse the people who resort to urination in public paths are the same. Groups/parties who want to "celebrate their leader's birthday" by putting up banners across the city/town and cause inconvenience to movement of traffic and businesses around, are corrupt. And the list goes on. So corruption is not just about money transactions, but much deep rooted in our society. We just believe in our right to corruption in our own way. And we all believe we are not corrupt because "we do not take bribes". Corruption starts in thought and manifests itself in many forms as above. Unless we can create the right culture - which includes though process and benevolence, this cannot be solved.
