Preparation to prevent DENGUE /CHICKEN GUNYA/ZIKA
TAKE A DETECTIVE ROUND OF YOUR COLONY TO SEE IF ANY ARTICLE WHICH MAY HOLD WATER IN RAINY SEASON LYING IN ANY NEIGH BOUR HOOD PARK,WASTE AREA OR IN SOME ONE,S HOUSE LIKE MATKA,S,DUSTBINS,GARBAGE TROLLEYS OF MCD LYING UNUSED ETC.
Look for water marks on ground of over flowing water tanks in front or back of houses ,in near by schools offices etc.Over flow water or water from leakage of broken pipes or from a tap installed near a drain , collecting in near by covered drains is a potential place of dengue mosquito breeding which are not usually checked by malaria workers .May be they are not instructed to open the drains or they donot have tools to open drains.In our own interest we have to reduce the input in drains by installing over flow controls ,getting leakage repaired ,getting tap water diverted to other drains instad of rain water drains etc.If there is water ,some amount of diesel should be made to flow in drain every weak.It is wrong to say that dengue mosquito cannot breed in drains .In fact drains are primary & permanent source from where dengue mosquitoes fly to breed in secondary sites as desert coolers,over headtanks,inder ground water tanks,tyres etc.
Check near by taxi stands or tyresshops ,petrol pump for any tyres lying in open & if so to cover them or remove them.
Survey the near bymarket on all floors to see whether there are any water tanks lying unused or open.Also if the toilet is in use or abandoned ,whether the over lying water tank is covered.
Check the buildings near by under construction /demolition /abandoned /locked for any open collection of water or tanks lying partially covered .Tanks should be fully covered .Dengue mosquitoes can enter water tanks through small openings.Try to obtain phone numbers ,email id of owners of these buildings in case any need arises
Ask people in above areas if there are mosquitoes that bite in day or morning-these are dengue mosquitoes.
Look for actively motile ,difficult to catch mosquitoes hovering around people sitting .standing/working in colony,marketsetc in morning.If found ,these are dengue mosquitoes.To confirm ,kill a mosquito with a soft cloth & examine for white streaks on legs by keeping it on a dark/black surface.
Beware of dengue mosquitoes where ever u go inside a building or even outside under a shade .Always for one – 2 minnutes watch if any mosquito has started hovering around u or is already hoverinf around some one specially in 1st 2 hours after sunrise or 2 hrs before sunset
Be your own super malaria inspector ratherthen depending on govt malaria inspectors who only examine our desert coolers /over head tanks which are only temoorary& not primary source of breeding that also occasionally .
Examine areas again after evry spell of rain
