Are online stores like Amazon allowed to charge more than MRP on packaged goods?
I purchased ink to refill printer cartidge for which online store charged more than MRP mentioned on package.
If this practice is not allowed, whom should I approach to lodge a complaint against online store? Please guide. more

The bill should not be more than the MRP. However, packing and transportation can be charged extra. more

No one is allowed to charge price more than MRP. In fact MRP is a guiding figure. One can bargain and buy at lower price. Even if the prices have been increased neither the item can be sold at higher than MRP nor any sticker can be put on the packet. You can complain to the State Controller of Legal Metrology along with a copy of the invoice and photo of the packet showing MRP. Legal Metrology can only look into the violation and penalise without ensuring refund of extra money to the consumer. In that case it is advise first to take up complaint with Amazon seeking refund of the excess amount. I personally feel one could compromise on the refund of the excess amount but the steps should be to prosecute the company so as to restrict their unfair business practice. more

Return the cartridge to Amazon by mentioning the reason for return. Also, send a separate email to Amazon complaining about the overcharging. more
