Price of tomato onion potato
It is a serious issue. Price of these very essential items keep fluctuating like my Blood Pressure.A week ago Onion price here was 6kg/Rs.100.00.(Rs.16.67 /kg).I told him it is too much.He smiled and put two more in the bag.Yesterday it was Rs.30.00 kg and he said the Diesel Price increased.I showed the news paper report that the price of diesel reduced by 82 paise.He told me to go and buy the onion from the news paper office.The potato vendor was more serious and said"Sir, the price is Rs.40.00 per kg because China attacked India and the war might break out any time.And is hushed voice he also told me about the summit being held in Moscow. I buy tomato from the Horticorp out let near my home.Even after 18 years of living in the neighborhood he will ask me if I need "natti" or hybrid.I am a patriot so I always opt for "natti" means locally grown and "organically" treated.The price was atrocious Rs.35.00 for kg and the hybrid at Rs.20.00.So I bought hybrid and got enough verbal rotten tomatoes on my face.Then she reminded me about the watermelons I bought near the bridge on Ganges in 1974( my wife is from Lucknow and I am from Kottarakara in Kerala).The Ambi I drove back from Kanpur railway station have huge boot space I got them filled up and it cost me close to Rs.12.00 including the hay he laid on the floor.I gave most of it to my colleagues in the office and my wife gave it to neighbors.The watermelon vendor also discussed the liberation of West Pakistan and courage and grit the then PM had. After the year passed and Covid19 situation almost susided in February . We were just waiting for the commodity prices at least the essentials to come down. On the contrary all commodity sellers / dealers seem to have set the target at 100. That w can say is greed from Profiteers exploiting the situation. Should the Government also follow them to set Rs. 100 for fuel and Rs. 1,000 for Gas ? The govern ment has the best of Economic Advisers . Dont they know that fuel prices hike will have a Cascading effect on all commodities ? more
