Private educational institutions are exploiters

Private schools and colleges have hiked the fees to exhorbitant level. Almost all of them are supposed to be run by non profit trust which do not pay any income tax.
There appears to be no norm in fixing the fees and it has become a subject of negotiation. Marks are no more a criteria and only the fees paid is the basis for selection of students.

With limited number of government educational institutions, the poor students are left high and dry running with begging bowl to find money to pay the fees.

An irresponsible and corrupt government is not concerned about the situation and the management of the private educational institutions have no fear of law or the government. Many of them demand cash payment and do not provide proper receipts.

With nobody to question the private educational institutions (which have gone into the hands of corrupt and greedy businessmen and politicians) and with no consumer resistance, little public protest and media not strongly exposing the issues, the education in the country has gone for a toss. This is a very unhealthy trend and cause huge concern.

I am 77 years old.I studied only in govt. SchoolS and college. The teaching was good and the medium was TAMIL in school and English in college.I have done fairly well in my life. Then, very few people would think of going to a private school where fees are higher. Now the society has changed. Parents want to do things that they cannot afford. Also the govt. Schools are stamped as " not good". Even the govt. employees want their children to go to private school. Like getting tickets for cricket match, parents stay night and day on the foot path and pray to God to get application forms. Why is this craze? Are the govt. Schools today are REALLY bad?? We read in papers the innovation and high scholarly achievements of students of govt. School. In any open and free market conditions, cost of supply will be high when demand is high. So is the case of fees and other expenses for private school. There are quite a few questions to be asked? 1. Why Are the parents seek admission in a school they cannot financially afford? To meet higher expenses, they are forced to get higher income by ANY MEANS. 2. In TAMIL Nadu, the education system was considered as the best in India , till late sixties. After that, successive governments have interfered with education process , because the teachers are considered as good vote bank. 3. In cities like Delhi, one system, namely, CBSE is followed in all schools. In TAMIL Nadu you have many. That creates problems of its own. 4. All over India, boarding schools / resident schools or private schools are sought only by those who can really afford the cost. 5. Even inUSA, govt. schools are considered lower than private schools.since the cost of private school is high . So the Indian- origin students go to govt. Or chartered ( aided) schools. They do very well. Private universities are very costly compared to state universities . 6. Vested interests in TN will ensure that the current conditions continue, because Education is a good business. more
Hello N S Sir your comment and expectation is ok but more educational Institutions run by politicians thats way this problem what to do Sir. more
o Mr. Venkatraman: Tell me the area and the std. I will give you a list of vacant sets in Govt. schools. If you re unwilling, go to an aided school. Why go to private schools ? Een then /govt. has fixed fees. Take a pen and paper and complain to the respective authorities, CEO or DEO, Matric Director, Collector, and have evidence of excess payment. If you are scared of complaining, you better keep quiet. Dont grumble.Imagine, if people had been scared of protesting against the British, we would not have go the Freedom. We have an Act called RTE. Learn about that. It is only for the poor. 25% of seats are reserved ian all priate school. Try admitting a student and if you fail, complain to Collector. keep a copy and have evidence. you can get things done. If you are concerned about the poor, tell them about RTE and help them get admission in good schools. more
very emotional comment. The problem expressed by Mr.NS must be general not personal and true.It is giving an impression that you are also running an institute. This forum is meant for bringing common problems to a single platform so that collective decisions can be arrived at. more
Like any other maladies, Education system is also a well known issue to All. Both Government and Society has contributed to the plight. Governments and their machinery either don't have time or conflicting political interests within the Education as a system. Parents are either on wrong path due to fear or greed or no choice. At the end Students gets robbed off their childhood. Socially concerned persons choose and only choose to contribute to the system either by supporting to the deprived ones around them in their individual capacity or create trusts to set up a parallel education system. Solution doesn't seem to lie in taking the role of Government! Possible solution could be, in my view, is to form a strong Association of Parents which takes up all Education related issues persistently, legally if required, to get things done instead of getting into doing. Funds, Machinery, Laws, etc are very much available here. It is about getting Parents Organized to get things done! BE WARE: Such initiative could endanger our/your life for reasons known to All! :-) more
Mr.Venkatraman, I do not agree that all Schools are exploiting the poor in charging high fees. There are schools which do not get students coming in RTE where they need not pay any tuition fee. One point I agree that there are schools which are run by politicians and they pull out the students from nearby schools by their political power and connections. Yes, there are some grey areas where the fee fixation committee allows to charge for extra for books, stationary, dress, food and transport. I agree that irrespective of the quality of teaching people go to schools which have good looking buildings, high fees, good interiors and advertisements. There should be a limit for number of students for each class in a school so that those who indulge in such practice of pulling out students to the new schools by any means and make extra money with out proper teaching to the slow learners to make them score good marks. Teaching has to be assessed on the number of low mark getting students passing the common examinations with good marks, which is not understood by the parents. They go and pour money to school of their choice as they get money by any means to put their wards in such schools. If there is a limitation on number of students in a school and the payment is only online payment and if there is a process of online application for all students they such explotation can be minimised. more
Dear Saleswaran N, I think the leeches and fraudulent school managements will be happy to read your support for them. Is it politicians alone? You will find total frauds with chain of schools who do not do much of the teaching are existing. The weak government is totally in capable of doing any thing for the children, except being a mute spectators. You may not like to support the cause of the students, but do not support these managements as great givers of education, more
