Procurement of Services from Abroad

I am afraid Government of India is not making things easier for Startups. As of December 1, 2016 all services procured from foreign countries like hosting servers in cloud, paying facebook, linkedin, twitter for advertising or any other tech service will require the startup or company in India to pay service tax to Govt of India.

So not only that impacts a startups bottom line, it also creates regulatory hassle because the liability is on the startup to deposit this service tax and these foreign vendors are doing a hands off.

Govt of India should either exempt startups from this or they should ask these foreign vendors to register in India so it can be charged in India in the invoice then having to have startups go through this pain. Next thing you know will be some stupid inquiry by a service tax officer. more

Govt has now shown an ability to become superior and has come out of the mindset of chasing the culprits. It is now effectively approaching to become a "preventing the culprit "norm, which needs an applaud from every quarter. Over the time Indian govt as such has been unable /incapable to adequately look after the old generation. It is equally a fact that young generation also has the neglect factor on rise in the same context. To overcome this problem following sustainable and having achievable two purposes served in one stroke.. The taxable income after addressing/availing all the provisions of tax free savings, there are a sizable no of income tax payers who are subjected to pay tax on this overflows income. For such people ,and also for the people who want to save their earned money, can we think of offering tax waiver/tax concession on the quantum of amount they save as deposits in the name of their elder kith and kins and allow elders to avail their benefits of " interest " amount only and not the principle amount. BY doing this govt can get rid of burden on the senior citizen burden on them and as well improve the family unison and caring to get emotional wellness advantage ????? Financial specialists can work on the formulation of such scheme devising to help all the purpose of "BAHUJAN HITAY BAHUJAN SUKHAY"!!!!!!!!! Arun Bandi Pune 8554842433. more
I sent a suggestion to My Govt to take a leaf from the Pacific island of Bulau, where the traditional occupation of killing sharks for export of fins to Japan has been replaced by tourism implementing Nature conservation and a Marine Park in the seas around the island prohibiting fishing. I thought if a small island could implement this for the future of their citizens and preservation of their culture, we could do the same in the Palk Straits and protect our fisherfolk from marauding Sri Lankan boats capturing them and their gear. The suggestion was sent by the Central Govt authority to the Department of Fisheries in Tamilnadu who dismissed it saying "The fishermen have no other occupation hence this cannot be implemented. Matter closed." It does not appear that good governance or inspired governance is on the anvil just yet, unfortunately. L.Kalavathi Retd. Bank Official Chennai, Tamilnadu, India 8th Jan 2017 more
Is there scope for a PIL in Supreme Court for such matters where the consumer is made responsible for tax payment to government? Responsibility of consumer should end once he has made the payment to service provider. Any knowledgeable person here? more
I totally agree with Mr Sudhanshu Mittal. We have started experiencing now lack of expertise in the Govt. Some time back I wrote to PMO after experiencing the difficulty of a 92-year-old pensioner to get his living certificate to keep his pension going, that living certificate is the requirement of the office paying the pension and not of the pensioner as such the office should make its own arragement to collect the life certificate. I received a reply from PMO stating that "the existing practice to continue. The matter is closed". How ridiculous it is. Our Govt missionaries still carry the colonial egoritarian attitude. Unless we correct it we will continue to suffer. Thanks more
