Product Recalls in India

Does the consumer affairs department have any rules on product recalls. What I mean by recall is when a product defect is found and the car is recalled for changing of airbags.

Today there is no structured way of doing this in India. Can this local circle and dept of consumer affairs help formulate or enhance such rules so a recall is executed well and reaches consumer and also if consumer is not being reached effectively the brand is accountable. more

I bought a vacuum cleaner of Samsung VC20 last year. While using it,I found that it was not working on plug points other than AEH ones as a result,it could not be used all over the house. On the very next day I tried to replace the VC.But the dealer refused nor could he provide a junction box with long wire connectivity.I was rather surprised because the dealer never told about this problem. In US, any material purchased can be returned within 90 days and full amount is being refunded. There need not be any defect in the item purchased even if you are dis satisfied with the item purchased still it can be returned.Customer needs such freedom in India. more
ESSAI has come up with a detailed procedure for r RECALLS of food products. FSSA web site can be accesses to grt details The amended CP ACT will have a seprate chapte on PRODUCT LIABILITY. Un fortunately it is held up in the PARLIAMENT for more then 2 years more
In case a product is found defective on delivery or develops a defect within the warranty period, the sellers simply washes their hands off and passes the buck on to the service centre of the manufacturer. "Refund of money" appears to be NOT written in the book of their "sales ethics". more
