Property Registration Corruption in India

My sister’s ordeal in Hyderabad:

How Systematic corruption looks :
I recently bought a small flat in Hyderabad. Horrified to see how corruption is normalized in registration process. They asked me to pay 25k cash for ' documentation fees', if I dont pay, some query will be raised & my registration stalled

When I protested , they told me that it is actually a special offer price , less than the standard rate! Out of 34 flat owners, I am the only one holding out, even builder is vexed with me.

In the past year in my area, around one lakh flats have been registered. At a nominal (!) rate of 30k per apt, that is a whopping 300 crores! The justification is ' it gets divided among many people ' from top to bottom.
I am so sick.

I am forwarding this or posting on the LocalCircles to see if people power will make a difference . I can't fight the system alone. But together we can make a difference? It will benefit everyone in the long run. more

It has become a defecto payment accepted by all and needs to be curbed. more
Perhaps now it's the time where one has one has to pay at every step of life. It's so unfortunate. Govt. is always talking about good governance but ground reality is truly different. It's high time to raise voice collectively against such anarchy in society. more
This is common in any sub registrar offices in Karnataka also. File won't move without payoff. And now Karnataka government has started eKhata where scope of corruption is on peak. Karnataka government has opened the doors for the middle man as a link between sub registrar offices & property owners..Why government wants to harrass public.. now agents are active around the sub registrar offices but no evidence to prove which the government authorities usually ask for.Instead can they not make it full proof system where without paying anything, property owners can get eKhata? more
All the government has to do is send someone as a decoy and see what happens. But will they? Even if they do for how long? Will offenders be punished? It is a known fact about corruption at these places. But no one stops.
We are told about corruption free government at local and national level. But the ground reality is different.
You can not blame the agents. If we try to do ourselves it will be frustrating with long delays. So people pay as a fee for doing business with the government. more
Did Rajeev Gandhi say that corruption is a way life? Or was it Laluprasad ? more
