Punjab - Culprit for pollution

In 2005, 4315 sq km of agricultural land was SET ON FIRE in Punjab.

In 2015, it was 17,925 sq km.

That is 12 TIMES the size of Delhi [1481 sq km].

Imagine the whole of Delhi on fire. Now imagine twelve Delhis on fire. ALL AT ONCE.

Odd even is like putting bandaid when u have cancer more

Putting blame on Punjab or any other state is like blaming the thief instead of taking care of own goods. When IMD has clearly informed at least 10 days in advance of SMOG in Delhi, Delhi Government was sleeping over the eminent danger for citizens of Delhi even after experiencing similar night mare last year with NIL preparations whats ever in respect of strengthening public transport of Delhi. ODD-EVEN for mere Five Days is not a remedy for this situation, that too when the ODD-EVEN for only 10-15 % of the vehicles on road in Delhi is a futile excercise to control the monster SMOG. If the DElhi Government had good intentions of helping its citizens, why ODD-EVEN was not forced on 7th or 8th November. Now when the situation is improved, ODD-EVEN is like a face saving effort. more
Definitely, Punjab is the culprit. Punjab Govt has failed even to abide by thr NGT directions. more
I think theres something more than that meets the eye here. Punjab and farmers are being defamed to bring down their status in our society. How can the crop burning in Punjab affect Delhi alone? All around Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP and Punjab all have relatively very clear air, much better than Delhi. Yes on highways little pollution is there but not throughout the states. Delhi isnt a low pressure area to suck all the pollution from all North India over other states without affecting states enroute like Haryana. Friends we must look beyond what is being projected. Secondly, its funny that the picture shows all Punjab on fire on 27 Oct and then all clear on 28 Oct then again all Punjab on fire on 29 Oct and then again all clear on 30 Oct! Similar trend is again noticed on 04, 05 and 06 Nov! Is it really possible to unite all farmers of the state to fix up days to burn their crop like this? Further to above reasoning, I want to express my doubts which may or may not be true but worth a thought. Is it to promote the sale the air purifiers and breathing masks as had been alleged earlier by another friend on Local Circles or something else? Sometime back we used to drink free water from taps, now we cant even think of drinking water other than the bottled water or water purified by ROs and UV lamps. Similarly, very soon we will be forced to use air purifiers at home and air masks outside. This will surely help the industry but what about the society at large? There used to be dust in the air earlier also. The only addition is the petrol and diesel burning! Other day I saw a news article how certain interested parties have manipulated the society opinion to manipulate the Diamond rates and promoted diamonds in the wedding rings! more
We may get Ads on TV for air purifiers where VIPs like Sachin Tendulkar etc will give an excuse for saving the FUTURE SACHINs by buying these equipment. How stupid society we are living in. more
I guess band-aid is a bad example for a disease like cancer. For a cancer patient, I am sure even a day lived without pain would be the best. In my opinion, odd-even should be followed always, atleast for next 5 years. Last evening, I heard that vehicle pollution is just 5% contributing factor and I think achieving that 5% is also a great deal. Once the 5% is sorted, we can see what else can be done to help us. Immediate solutions are unrealistic expectations. Every disease is cured with time and not overnight. I think, as individuals, we should start acting in small ways - it's never too late. Thank you. more
Its like a Band-Aid when the cancer has been neglected till is has become a demon. Negligence of present and past Delhi Governments are to be blamed. more
Is Punjab near to Delhi or Haryana / UP. No figures for other nearby states. more
