PVR profiteering

In attached example It seems PVR is not passing benefit of reduced gst to consumer. Price of a ticket in PVR connaught places was 200 rupees in sep 18 but in jan 19 when gat rates were reduced price has increased to 300 per ticket. See attached.

No wonder gst reductions is leading to profits for Pvr and not lower cost for consumer

Also I am surprised to see a few senior members in the circle not even aware about how profiteering works and instead telling me that a manufacturer has right to fix MRP. Of course they do but when govt changes gst they dont have right to increase base price (unleas there is evidence) and instead pass the benefit of reduced gst to consumer by lowering MRP. more

Apart from all the foregoing comments, prices at Cine Plazas differ from day to day and depending on the banner names. Ticket prices on the releasing dates and week days including Saturdays and holidays are always higher than the other days. However, our manufacturers and traders are undoubtedly engaged in profiteering illegally depriving the consumers in getting the benefits of tax reduction. Surprisingly, the government couldn't bring in effective laws in this regard during last on and half years to deal with the dishonest profiteers with iron hands. more
Government is bothered on price fixation by any service provider and rather it is market driven. The demand for transportation is increasing and the service providers are taking advantage of this. more
YOU ARE ASSUMING THAT TICKET RATES ARE SAME FOR ALL THE FILMS.IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT WHEN EVER A MAJOR FILM IS RELEASED(ONE OF KHANS)THE TICKET RATES ARE REVISED.WHEN RAISING SUCH ISSUES IT WILL BE BETTER IF ALL THE DETAILS ARE GIVEN RATHER PICKING A FEW CONVENIENT POINTS. more
THANK YOU BEING AN EX dIRECTOR TO COME DOWN TO THE COMPLAINTS LEVEL TO MAKE CERTAIN ASPECTS CLEAR . PARTICULARLY THE SALE PRICE BEING LESS THAN THE NEW MRP AFTER REDUCTION OF GST SOME HAVEN'T UNDERSTOOD . BUT I DO LIKE TO JOIN ISSUE WITH THE POST ON ONE ASPECT , THE MAGNITUDE OF DISCOUNT OFFERED . IS THE MARK UP ALLOWED TO THAT EXTENT OR IS THERE A CAP ON THE MARK UP. ACCORDING TO YOU SIR , IS THE MARK UP [that is the MRP fixation ] THE EXCLUSIVE DOMAIN OF THE TRADER / MANUFACTURER. I am just seeking clarification boldly from you as you walked down to clarify some aspects , not only in this incident , but also earlier. more
Ms Garima, I am a technocrat, dealt with consumers throughout my life and one of those who know how MRP is calculated and have repeatedly written that the MRP depends on a number of factors and that there is no law which prevents the manufacturer to revise the price. Prior to joining BIS, I have been involved in calculating the cost price of electrical switchgear for large customers and participating in big tenders. Now that you have written about similar comments by others as well, you would do well to quote the rules and take up the issue directly with the authorities rather than asking others to do that. What prevents you to do that? Sending others on a wild goose chase has gone for too long. Even where the price offered is much lower than the revised MRP after GST, reduction, you term it as profiteering. All of us including me are consumers and are keen to get a legitimate price reduction. Some members who have not analysed the issues may find my comments strong but these are valid. I hope you will react to these comments and provide the information asked for, for the benefit of circle members. Let us all behave in a rational manner. more
