Heated debate is going on in Tamil Nadu about quality of milk. Time has come for thorough investigation of milk supplied by Govt controlled Aavin and other Private brands operating in the market. First of all dates ( packed or expiry date) must be made mandatory. Also adulterated milk, presence of chemicals and other contamination aspects to be checked. more
There are so much of debate going on regarding the quality of milk supplied by private milk companies. In USA there is an agency called FDA ( Food and Drug Administration ) which comes under US department of Health and Human Services. The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public through control and supervision of food safety. In our country also there are different departments operating by drawing salary from public exchequer. They have been equipped with ultra modern laboratory facilities. Under such situation, why they are keeping quiet. What happen to our food safety acts. Are they simply sleeping in the books. Yes, packaged milk can never replace the real thing. However it is reprehensible that something that is required by infants and senior citizens is being adulterated and is unregulated to such an extent. The Government of Tamilnadu however cannot blow its own trumpet about Aavin. I have, while drinking flavoured milk from an Aavin bottle before packaging changed, found a pea-sized glass piece in my mouth. It taught me to always use a straw and never to drink direct from the bottle. The entire process of toning natural milk of cows and buffaloes ends up changing the very character of milk, making it constipatory. Ayurvedic and other native medicine required to be administered along with milk actually cannot use packaged milk as it is so different in attributes from natural milk. Can our farmers forego the natural milk from their cows/buffaloes and purchase Aavin milk and other packaged milk? I believe in some countries like Israel the farmers are willing to sell all their milk produce to the Milk Cooperative since the quality of the end-product is superior and cheaper for them.
