Quality versus Price

It is good that public is getting interested in this issue. Together we cam move the regulatory agencies to act so that Food is safe for consumption.
Shri Adarsh Varma ji, greater regulation and checks on food quality will surely bear cost and raise the prices further.
In my opinion, Govt should have a limited role on pricing of food items prepared by Haldiram etc. Let these be decided by market forces. The prices at Haldiram or Bikanerwala etc have to be as per market competition. Let more such joints take up this business, if there is very high profit in it. This product has to compete with others not only in India but in a large number of counties abroad too, in quality and pricing. Therefore, while quality of food product is our major concern, prices are not an issue.
Please do not mix the two issues. Our motto is to ensure SAFE FOOD. more

market forces would not only generate safe food but would also shake up the idle food authorities to act frequently. more
Pricing in India does not follow model taught in economics or marketing. We follow models like "going price", "opportunistic price" "extortionist price"etc. Recent controversy about pricing of stent is an example. Fair price exists only in control situation. We are charged Rs 60/ for water bottle even though MRP is under Rs 20/. All food products are sold at huge profit. One can see absolute lack of hygiene not only in pushcarts but also in so called good hotels. Four and five star hotels are not necessarily better. An inviting looking food may have been made several days before hand and stored in walk in fridges. Total disregard starts from cleaning of dishes. It is God's grace that we live with these junk. more
Dear Vivek Kumarji, have you ever used a bath soap costing Rs. 1,000 or Rs. 250 per piece (being advertised on tele-media now a days)? Instead of Cheap & Jugad, there is another phrase also known as "Optimum". How do you like that? more
Quality Vs Price-age old conflict-we need to always prefer quality as against price, this will set tends to improve quality in commoditites As our country advances/progresses w need to build awareness on quality . Good quality has assurance of long duration of utility. These factors among themselves fix pricing of goods and services-govt. has limited role here. more
Prices of any item primarily need to be worked out on the input cost, process cost, taxes, overheads, any other liability and the profit margin. Profit margin on the principles of business sustainability will be most optimised and consumer friendly. We all have observed that even Government of India and Public Sector companies have never thought of pricing on sustainability principle. One live example is Petroleum Products like Diesel and Petrol. Other example is electricity. These are energy associated items and are essential in current days. How can one expect in our country that other establishments will ever consider the pricing with such an approach resulting in optimised cost to consumer. more
