RAIL BAGGAGE RULES , COOPERATION ,ADHERENCE :

These are the rules that have been laid down very thoughtfully , PURELY for THE CONVENIENCE & COMFORTS of THE PASSENGERS. Now it is in our court as to how best we can enjoy if implemented and have a comfortable journey and also allow the other co passengers to have .

All along the honest law abiding citizens have been quietly bearing various inconveniences caused by a few with heavy luggage dumped into the compartments giving very little room for movement . It is okay if a piece or 2 is more in extra ordinary cases where sick and kids are traveling ; but not to come early and fill up all vacant places in the cubicle and , also keep luggage in the passage and near the toilet not at all bothering the co passengers and their share of the luggage space .

One can suspect a lobby in the station helping such greedy people targeting for some extra money, without knowing that it will cause total discomfort till the luggage is removed .
As the rues are not laid down by the Passengers why don't we let the Railways ,

* take care of the PROBABLE corruption that was listed in earlier posts .

* promptness in booking of luggage ,

* Plan for Convenient place in the station for the passengers to weigh the luggage .

The above 3 are not at all our responsibility . It is the responsibility of the Railways . A good initiative to implement rules for the convenience and comfort of the Passengers should be most welcome. From our side we have to reach the station with sufficient time for the operation .

The biggest mistake the Railways made in the news was the caption "Excess Baggage could get you hefty Fines " PASSENGERS HAVE TO PAY UP TO SIX TIMES THE STIPULATED FARE ". The rule says that the charges could be 1.5 times .

This mistake has lead to the following :

* there will be protests from passengers and sleeper cells so that there will be need to take up the due responsibilities ,

* Railways needn't go in for tough new challenges like taking responsibility to weigh the luggage , make bills , load and unload in the brake van,

* finally of course to target the extra income that goes to their own pockets than the coffers of the Great Railways.

IN MY OPINION THIS LUGGAGE RULES SHOULD COME TO FORCE AND IMPLEMENTED BY THE RAILWAYS WITH COOPERATION FROM PASSENGERS .
DON'T LET IT OFF THE HOOK , ULTIMATELY IT IS FOR THE COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE OF THE RAIL PASSENGER / CUSTOMER.

This year the Operation ratio of 98.5 is the worst in Railway History ,and without adjustments would cross 100 .
The best ever OR of Indian Railways was 74.7% in 1963-64 . This issue is one of the so many that drains out the Railways . How will Railways make it better and when are we expecting Good Days in the Railways. more

I agree with railway for taking such a good step which will passenger's travelling very easy and convenient.... more  
It is ideal for passengers travelling up to train end point but full of hassle for passengers getting down at some middle point specially during night. It is almost impossible to locate person responsible to deliver luggage at de-boarding point. In fact luggage van person should be ready to deliver booked luggage as soon as passenger reaches luggage van. What to say of luggage, it is difficult to even board trains during nights for reserved coaches. TTE will open some other gate instead of coach where is reservation. Say passengers waits near one's reserved coach Number (say S6, A3, or B4) but TTE may open gate of coach S3, A1 or B1, causing great inconvenience to passengers specially Senior citizens and family with ladies & children. more  
In the late 70's , the 2nd class sleeper used to have an enclosed place at the entrance where the big and extra baggage used to be deposited and locked . Then the T.T.E. used to keep the key . The T.T.E Used to welcome passengers taking delivery at the terminus or after 6.00 A.M. Mid night deliveries they used to grumble as it will spoil their sleep [why does the railways extract work in the day time also after working in the night ?] Now that there are attendants in the coaches it is easy . SO THE SUGGESTION FOR SPACE AND STAFF IS READY FOR DEPOSITING THE LARGE ONES AND THE EXTRA BAGGAGE . Create that extra space sacrificing a cubicle . Let Railways charge extra for the extra comfort they give passengers. more  
i agree with mr daniel. good idea by railway for booking excess luggage. in the past wen we had chair car deluxe train running between del-ccu, they had a similar system for checking in extra baggage in the luggage van. so it is not a new concept, it is a tried n tested process of the past! more  
Good suggestion. RAilway should forcefully implement it. more
