RAIL CROWD DURING FESTIVAL DAYS (Contd. from 9th jan 2010 : festivals & school holidays,

uncontrollable rail rush ). HOW TO TIDE OVER :
There were Good suggestions as well as Brick Bats . Some suggestions like
-Ticket booking is available 120 days in advance , so every passenger can plan his /her holiday 4 months in advance to book tickets . - Next there are holiday special trains during Festival holidays . - Shortage of trains and compartments .

* Facility to book 120 days in advance : We have heard of all confirmed tickets being sold out on the very first day of reservation to very popular destinations during Festival days. To other places within the first week only RAC & W.L. tickets are offered . That is when the passengers have to compete with the Agents and the malpractices as well. Festival Crowd and Holiday Crowd is not a new phenomenon in India .It has been there for quite some time and particularly the last 10/ 15 years . Work spot being away from home town people like to go home , or visit Holiday spots with Family and children and so on are the reasons . The most pathetic to see are the way MIGRANT LABOURERS travel in the toilets, literally hanging squatting all the way to long distances . It is discomfort for them is one issue ; the other and concerning one is for the legitimate passengers with reserved tickets are also made to suffer with the passengers with unreserved tickets .

SOLUTION : The trend of demand is known within the first 5 days . So the administration has 115 days to plan how best to Bridge the gap between the Demand supply . [Railways has 63,000 coaches as of 2018 – 1,000 coaches are phased out and 3,000 coaches are added year after year from I.C.F. Chennai & R.C.F. Kapurthala ] So 3,000 Coaches are added year after year to this 63,000.

SO THE ADMINISTRATION HAS TO PLAN MORE COACHES OF SITTING , RESERVED SITTING AND SLEEPER CLASS DURING FESTIVALS TO MEET THE EXTRA DEMAND .

ADMINISTRATION HAS TO OFFER COMFORTABLE JOURNEY TO THE LEGITIMATE TICKET HOLDERS LIKE YOU AND ME . PASSENGERS WITHOUT CONFIRMED RESERVATION SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED INTO RESERVED COMPARTMENT .

* Long List of Holiday Specials are announced : No doubt I did see the list of Holiday specials from various Zonal railways posted by a fellow member . They are announced quite late ,it is too late by then for the good planners like you and me who missed on the first or the first of 5 days .

SOLUTION :THE HOLIDAY SPECIALS SHOULD BE ANNOUNCED AS AND WHEN THE BOOKINGS GET FILLED IN REGULAR TRAINS . TICKET BOOKINGS SHOULD OPEN WELL IN ADVANCE .

The data regarding the Gap between the DEMAND AND SUPPLY can be culled out from Ticket booking History . I AM SURE THE RAILWAYS IS INTERESTED AT LEAST IN BREAKING EVEN .AND KEEPING THE WORKING RATIO DOWN. more

To Reduce the unwanted rush , the rly .should scrap the concession Fare norms. after scrapping the norms you will find there is around 25-30 % increase in Berth capacity as well as in passenger income. Peoples are keeping silent on these points. Also start maxm. Luggage carrying limit per passenger as per air Lines irrespective of Gender . Recruit New TTE & Attendant staff with authorities for Luggage & Ticket Check in. The regular TTE are not suitable for this types of Job. they just take all things casually. It is O.K. up to certain limit but not frequent or always. more
Railways have enough data for analyse and can easily find out the rush time or period during the year. Accordingly they have to introduce additional trains. The objective should be every person who demands for a ticket even at the last moment should get his/her ticket. While we can plan vocations well in advance those working cannot plan in such advance and even if planned may need to change later. more
Booking of tickets should be made against ID card of the passengers to avoid issue of benami tickets. TTEs should check the tickets and verify the ID Cards. It is now a practice that TTEs are not checking the ID cards of the passengers, even passengers are prepared for that. This is due to the nexus of TTEs with the agents engaged in blocking the tickets. More number of Super fast trains should be introduced with limited stoppage. You may observe that slow trains with more stoppage are less crowded than super fast trains with less stoppage. Fast passenger trains should run in between two Rly. HQs. more
Railways have to plan to increase in the manufacturing coaches. At least they had to add 5000 coaches every year. Plight of migrating labourers is horrible and they’re being exploited by railway staff by taking bribes. more
