Railway Cleanliness

I have been traveling in Pune - Sikandrabad, Shatabdi Express.

The cleaning staff travels in the train. They do clean the floors and get passengers acknowledgements too. Possibly get good remarks as well.

Cleaning the train is not limited to floors only. Please check inner side panels, tables, windows, window shields etc. All these give a picture that the railway management does not understand ' Good House keeping Practices'. There is no one to question and possibly responsible for the train. The side panels, glasses appear dirty as have not been wiped for weeks together.
The toilets and wash basins are not as they should be. The window shields are torn at several places.
Hand marks are every where? The individuals who are being paid and are identified with the job should be trained to carry out the responsibilities with grace and respect as their duties.
This will only change towards better tomorrow.

The turnaround time of a train at the station is good on paper but due to routine delay in the arriving train, available time for house keeping or rakes is reduced drastically. Awareness of the cleaning staff needs to be improved as well, since it has been rightly pointed out cleaning floors is not everything. The coaches of Indian Railway, in general, give a filthy look if inspected carefully with dirt in every corner and lack of maintenance at every front, be it the panels, under seats, toilets etc. I feel that many of them are manufacturing defects (e.g. coarse stitching of panels, incomplete finishes at corners etc.) that have not been inspected properly during commissioning and handover. more  
Railway started chart system in south railway but request to remove 3rd party cleaning bcz railway taken cleanliness under their hand then more employment will generate nd better result will get more

Thank you all for commenting on my message. while I accept the points raised by you and also agree with you that all passengers should be responsible too, my issue was not related to these issues. I in-fact have accepted in my message that the floors are being maintained at-least in SHATABDI trains. My point is related to SIDE PANELS, GLASSES, BATHROOMS, CORRIDORS, CATERING SERVICE etc; where in a lot need to be done. I am sure some of you have gone through the WRITTEN responsibilities of train conductors. I am not sure if these have diluted over the years; it is long time since I have read the RAILWAY TIMETABLE, where in these are detailed out. I have never seen a conductor concerned about these;WHY? Railway was not like this always. Please read Mahatma Gandhi's biography, where in he himself elaborates, that while travelling from Calcutta to Delhi, train stops at Allahabad; The Father of the nation gets down to buy medicine and the train waited for him for two minutes, when he still did not turn up, his baggage was down loaded and kept with Station Manager. He was not an ordinary person at that time. It is culture, every employ including Conductors, Coach Assistants, Catering Staff, Cleaning Agencies, Food Inspectors, Railway Authorities need to respect and observe and maintain the facilities. A long time ago I had the opportunity to travel from Bandug to Jakarta, appox. 200 KM journey. Our railways in tracks, speed and Railway Stations etc was much better at that time too. Yet the orderliness and the cleanliness and the break-fast served and the customer service and customer respects was ten times better. We are even today no-match to that service. WHY? I am glad, this is a forum to raise our voice. We will do better too. Thank you all for your comments. PPMADAN more
