I travel quite a bit in the Rajdhani express between Bangalore and New Delhi. Leave alone, the quantity that is supplied which I believe is big racket the quality is also questionable. As regards quantity, the contractors get paid for even a sachet of salt, pepper, sugar etc., which goes missing in many plates. It is a clear margin for the contractors. Although this sounds small but imagine @ Re 1 per salt sachet, per trip the contractor gets paid for about 900 sachets in a typical single trip. The rest can be imagined. The quality is always questionable, never stored in hygienic conditions, despite providing heaters in all these coaches, the food is never served hot etc., It is better they do away with the system of adding the meal cost to the ticket and work as the low cost air lines. Let the passenger decide what he/she wants. more

When you order for Non Veg meal, in trains where meals are included, the supplier tries to palm off the veg meal for reasons best known to him. more

Intimation about the details of meals to be served will help passengers as they may have restriction on certain items. For example many a traveler avoids milk based drinks. more
