Railway Train and Platform Food Quality

Railway train and platform food is a big concern for us as when one is travelling in trains, we have limited food options. Does FSSAI have a role in certifying the quality or is that done by Railway Officers?

How do Railway officers ensure that inspections are actually inspections and done in detail than just to check a box? more

There is huge corruption in Railways, which is the main cause of poor and limited quality of food on Railway Stations and also in the trains. Unless we kill the devil called corruption, nothing will change. Even FSSAI Inspectors are corrupt and they issue certificates on the basis of getting money. more
Sir I will agree that more to be done regarding food quality but it Has improved from the past .so many provision has been offered in this subject .I personnaly congrt railway minister his efforts will bring certainly bring good quality at affordable prise. more
The issue has been discussed in this forum on several occasions but to no avail. When Mr Prabhu took over the reign of the Indian Rails, a ray of hope for all round improvement in its functioning and services was ignited but during the course of time he also appears to have given up and surrendered to the mighty bunches of bureaucrats and corrupts. Let the God save Indian Rails and its poor passengers. more
some one questioned-lips of camel are crooked, my answer, which part of this animal is straight? Indian society situation is same. more
Meals on wheels issues are simply painful. Taste, quality and pricing of meal available on trains with pantry gets discussed and flagged on various platforms and occasions. However, meals booked online for the trains without pantry is just horrible experience. You book a meal based on train schedule and trains get late normally. You remain hungry since meal is not available at the time you desired to feed yourself. Situation becomes critical for passengers suffering with disease like diabetics which needs feeding at particularly times, otherwise person may collapse. Poor fellow has no option but to pick food from plateform which has no quality checks and is prepared in the most unhygienic conditions. This food also could be picked up if you worthy of getting down the train, and get on it again with food loosely kept on torn newspaper sheet while the train has started crawling. It's most risky. Even if you have wherwhittal to book on line for the next station, in moving train after assessing time adequately, you get cheated for quality and price. Travelling in 19716 on 30th of January, I booked meal online with Railresto to be delivered at Kanpur, assessing the delayed train to be there around 1800 hrs. I was served meal, but cold, tasteless, improperly packed spraying dal on virtually everything else. When I asked for Bill, the delivery boy handed over a small handwritten chit carrying my PNR, coach, phone number and the amount and gave me a lecture that this is the bill which is given through delivery boy by Railresto and actual bill will be SMS to me on my phone. I never received a bill, which I was pretty sure not to receive since such meals are served outside the billing system and the amount goes in personal pockets. Mercy the travellers!!!!! more
