Railways looting and yet shaming the public

To shame us, railway prints on each ticket that 53 pc discount has been given. They claim they have charged for just 47 pc of their cost. Take an example. Cost of full fare 3ac rajdhani (lowest class) is 2200 odd mumbai to delhi. So 100 pc fare would be 4600 approx which is equal to the usual air fare. Does it not point to the inefficiency of railways for which the people have to suffer ? Not only suffer, but people are made to feel guilty and ashamed that they have caused loss to the railways by enjoying 53 pc discount. Why should we tolerate this when the loss is due to their own inefficiency and corruption ? People must force the railways to withdraw that statement of having done a meherbani of 53 pc discount. more

Correction: on the ticket it is printed Railways is taking 57% of the total expenses- balance 43% is borne by the Govt. It is true that Railways is running like a personal fiefdom. No linen in many trains, late running of trains with no consideration for the passengers etc. What about cost savings by the govt? How is that money accounted? more
The matter be taken up with Railways Board and railway Minister. more
facilities in our railways are very bad with no accountability and no water in toilets and cleaning also not adequate.Lights and charging also sometimes does not work. It has to go a long way to become effective. more
When railway quote to that it recovers only 47% on passenger segment, it means it's a cumulative average taking all types of trains. In premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi etc railways earns money and it's profitable business, but in the local train, memo, passenger train and intercity train the ticket cost is intentionally kept low to make this affordable to the lowest strata of the society. Further railway earn quite well in busy routes like Mumbai to Delhi but it looses money to maintain remote connectivity. The freight segment is the profitable business of railway which checks the losses in the passenger segment. One thing I would like to criticize is about IRCTC charges, which is so high in the current times. When a customer books ticket online, it helps railways to narrow down the requirement of booking clerk at the counter but IRCTC charge quite high charges to facilitate the ticket booking which should be stopped. Even if the train is cancelled by railways, the IRCTC charges are not refunded. more
Therefore the railways should not print such offensive messages on all tickets. They may, if they want provide such info of discounts to people who get such discounts. As tickets are computer printed, this sekective printing of message is surely possible. I have not talked about the rates, which are politically decided, not based on economics. My objection is only in respect of that message to all passengers. more
I think Railways if they can not make a new innovative system, simply follow state transport systems prevailing in our country. more
