Railways on Hiring Spree

Yesterday there was news that railways will be going on hiring spree and hiring 250000 employees in class 3 and class 4.

With already 1.3 million employees, so many of class 3 and 4 category employees sitting idle, some serving as peons at home, dont you think its time to redeploy them for functions like safety, helpline, catering support, cleanliness.

Already have you impact of 7th pay commission. saying you want to hire another 250000 is just further wasting tax payer money.

How about offsetting the revenue gains from cutting EQ by 80% be used to hire any new really needed resources.

We want better railways Mr. Prabhu. after all you are deploying our money. more

I too have a doubt. When you go for purchase of a ticket saying that 47%of the money is of this ticket comes from normal citizen. Where from they got this calculation? On Jun 14, 2017 5:01 PM, "Shikha Jain" wrote: more
Railways is the most precious scapegoat in the government machinery where they can always show losses. 1. Though passenger traffic is very heavy yet they do not provide trains to clear the very heavy waitlisted passengers, 2. The elderly should be retired as they are no more efficient in their work, 3. Tracks, Accidented trains bogies, old railway stations, old computers, old water tanks etc., and a many more all can be put up for auction online and sold off immediately, 4. The number of free passes provided to family members should be done away with altogether, 5. All passengers(even government officials) should be made to purchase tickets online with a payment made instead of free travel and claim the same from their respective department after travel only, 6. A visit to any railway station/office is very good in order to see the level of professionalism being met out to visitor a) Cleanliness is non- existent b) Staff booking tickets is always complaining about the speed of the internet so that justify the tea/coffee breaks, Also toilet breaks wherein these guys sell tickets in black, c) Stations are still quite a mess d) Over head tanks continue to leak so wastage of water, e) Railways could well afford to put up SOLAR PANELS on all the rooftops of the railways stations and platform roof tops hence saving on the electrical wastage and even providing electricity to light up many villages too hence earning plenty of money, f) The toilets stink and many a time the lack water for flushing purpose too, g) Like the BAN on smoking at stations, there should be a BAN eating/chewing of tobacco/Pan also as the consumer goes around spitting it all over the place(Tracks,Platforms, Toilets,Canteen, Stairs, Drive ways, Parking area etc). h) All passengers should be made to put up their photograph at the time to booking the tickets. This will ensure that black market for tickets comes down as well as can catch trouble makers and undesirables who have recently caused havoc on trains. This would be the easiest way to catch criminals speedily. more
Hiring 250000 employees will take around 2 years and by that time general elections will be declared. This will be a good election propaganda for ruling party. This could be one of the reasons. more
We want more for everything from railways - more train, higher speed, better cleanliness, higher safety, etc. etc. , but get scared if the Railways get any thing more - whether salary, manpower etc. Will some one compare the no of passenger trains , tonnage of goods transported etc. and no. of employees - what used to be 10,20,30 years ago? Question is not the no. of employees - but productivity of each employee and effective supervision of each employee, prompt corrective and preventive actions etc. more
Though the Rlys are a Govt organisation they should be run on commercial lines- efficiently and economically. One great drawback in achieving efficiency is overstaffing. If international standards are taken then our our Rlys more than twice the required manpower. This surplus manpower is not just a load on the revenues of the organisation but create avoidable problems for the organisation. A large number of personnel are employed as domestic help of executives. more
