Railways Recruitment - Key Issues and Opportunities

With this post we would like to seek your inputs on the key issues and opportunities with the Railways Recruitment processes.

Once we know them, we will review Root Causes/ Solutions through separate posts.

The objective would be to put together a comprehensive whitepaper so Railways can streamline its recruiting and staffing process and make it more efficient and effective.

Like Army all the operational staff should have NO reservation. It should be completely on merit as reserved category employees may endanger lives of commuters. more  
Only written objective exam. Question sheet should not be same rather thousands of question sheet with a seperate code to identify the answer in computer. question sheet should have question sheet code. In same room in same center there are hundreds of different question so that no one can copy or know which question will come. Random pick of question paper. With admit card one sticking bar code should be given to stick in the question paper. That will have all candidates detail. Result will be generated with computerised check from question bar code and candidate bar code. We had exams abroad where we had 30 students in a class and 35 question sheets. Random selection of questions. more  
it is required to depute more contract staff like loco pilot,guard,points man, helpers in all department, more  
It appears Railways recruitment is fully based on Government systems. Unless qualified persons are recruited on merit in a transparent manner, improvement may be difficult. more  
Pl. consider only Quality & Qualification, Don't consider any type of "Quota', which is the main rout and cause of cancer. more
