It is Good decision. Fake Peoples / passengers are booking tickets & make Train Full & honest passengers are not getting the seats. The Cancellation & Money refund makes another troubles for Railway. more
A move by Indian Railways expected years back. There was no justification in increasing the advance reservation period to 120 days as making a travel program 4 months in advance was quite difficult and uncertain causing lots of cancellation of confirmed tickets opening a back door for railways for additional income. more
I think it is otherwise.  Advance time limit has gone from 30 days to 60 to 90 and then to current 120 days in 2015 under this Government only. So many changes resemble the meddling of the Governments in the education sector at the whim of the ruler. When it went from 90 to whopping 120 days it appeared the Government was trying to mop up some money for  their populist schemes promised during 2014 election spree.  But it proved an inadvertent blessing. Span being so large, the booked tickets spread thinly on dates, except the vacation period. Hence the people who had to suddenly plan the journeys due to family circumstances, they had some pockets of availability across dates and classes, if they were flexible in choice. It in fact showed a merit in keeping the reservation available for 365 days so that the rush just vanished. In fact the loot of Tatkal can be eliminated by upgrading the Wait Listed passengers on the seats vacant on each day ( Or say two days before the journey, for planning )When they have changed the period, have they taken any survey?  Why directly 60 and not 90 ? We need to know the logic.   With Regards  Dr P.  R. Vaidya    Vashi ( New Bombay)   On Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 05:10:45 PM GMT+5:30, Ashima Gupta wrote: more
No reasons provided by the Railways for changes. Most of the prestigious trains will be booked 60 days in advance. Also senior citizens may not get lower berths. more
Railways may consider abolishing advance booking of tickets. Just like Airlines a person should be able to reserve his seat/berth as per his requirement. Railways may also consider introducing baggage check in facility for Vande Bharat. These suggestions may appear shocking to some LC members. more
