Ratings of Trains, Stations, Food & Service

Dear Railways Circle Members:

Ministry of Railways and LocalCircles are evaluating a new feature that will allow members to quantitatively rate various Trains, Stations, Service, Food, etc. in the coming year.

This will help us understand where the issues are within the Railways network, what's working well and what's not and over time it will help improve the Railway Services.

If you have additional thoughts on this and the concept of rating, please give your views.

An excellent thought by Indian railways on evaluating features. it should be extended to "Indian Railways Services". An index named "Indian railways Service Index" (or alike) could be developed. The index could be "Higher the better" OR "Lower the better" - leading to the concept of "Zero defect". The index could have the following: 1. Attributes classified into type of services (Like Linen, Food, AC, Booking etc etc) and numbered accordingly like 1.1, 1.2..., 2.1, 2.2.....etc. Sub-groups of these attributes could be separately measured and then all groups combined using weightages (Total of weightage shall be 1 or 100 or 1000). 2. A weightage to be assigned to each attribute. The format to have stratified/ segregated details (like Season, Railway Zone, Class, Type of train etc...) 3. Attributes could be obtained from participants of this circle. Thus received 'attributes' could be reviewed/ filtered and finalised by Indian Railways. 4. In a similar manner "weightage" of such finalised 'attributes' could be obtained. 5. Having designed the format, in this manner, perceptions like '1' for 'worst' '5' for best could be obtained through a variety of railway users and index computed. Computer programmes can be generated which can provide 'live' status of the index on IRCTC web site or web page of Indian railways. It shall be my pleasure to provide such facilitation to Indian Railways more  
Ratings of Trains, Stations, Food & Service Seems to be a brilliant idea. more  
Food served is biggest mis-managed area. Even though prices charged may be same for same class but Quality & menu depends on local supplier/Railway Zone. Even food cooked in train & standard of services differ from train to train. Recently (on 28th March 2015) I travelled from Ahmedabad to Delhi by Rajdhani Express in 1 AC and on 20th April 2015 from Nizamuddin to Pune by Duranto Express, again in 1 AC but quality was quite inferior in Duranto as compared to Ahmedabad Rajdhani. In 1 AC coach of Duranto menu provided was for 2AC & 3AC coach for reasons best known to caterer only. more  
I was recently traveling by Trivandrum - New Delhi Rajdhani Express leaving Trivandrum on 24th April 2015 B4 berth #57. The items served for dinner, breakfast and lunch are neither displayed on the coach or provided by waiter while serving. When a passenger is paying for the food being provided during the journey they got every right to know what they will be served. Even the waiter expressed his inability to provide same. For breakfast two slices of bread, butter and a single egg omelette is provided. No alternative drink for passengers who do not drink tea. The quantity may be adequate for person like me but majority of the passengers where cursing the railways for keeping them starving till lunch which was served at 1230 pm.I sent an sms to GM NR food & brevarage quality about the above but there is no response till date. Why can't Railways be more transparent and display either in the coach or in the serving plate a print out of what they provide to their passengers for lunch and dinner. more
