RE: Power Outages

I fully agree that the power situation in Noida has worsened this summer compared to last summer. The reason for frequent tripping of power, thougg for short durations, is not clear. Such interruptions are quite frequent... something like 2-3 times a day, though the duration varies from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. Most likely the reason is not due to non-availability of power, but due to the fact that maintenance systems and practices are practically non-existent in Noida and maybe at other locations also. Just have a look at the insulators of any overhead line. You will find these coated with dust and the shiny surface is invisible, thus the capability if acting as insulators is badly affected. There is absolutely no programme for cleaning of insulators or periodic checking of "jumpers"or checking of switches and fuse links.
Electricity department takes some action, though very slow indeed, only when a breakdown takes place. Then the machinery moves slowly and if you are lucky action may get taken and power supply restored after 2-6 hours, depending on the type of problem.
I AM AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER and understand these problems. The electricians have no equipment or instruments with them. All that they carry is one screwdriver and one plier. No one has any meters, to check earthing condition or continuity, etc.
Basically, the problem arises due to no site visits by senior engineers. They spend their time only in air-conditioned offices. Even their official contact numbers are usually switched off, so that they cannot be contacted. more

I fully agree. The lineman comes with a screw driver & plier to fix the fault. He is either not provided with tools or is not asked to carry it. The officers sit in their air-conditioned offices & do not bother. even if they come out their focus is to somehow restore electric supply than monitoring & instructing operating people to observe/ follow proper practices. In pillar all the 3-phase of distribution cable are commoned & connected to single phase. This will cause overload in one of the phases & burning of transformer which will affect the supply further more
Special monitoring and action should be taken against power getting stolen. more
It had been seen, that they do get help from few of the authority personells. more
I agree fully. more
Padam sir to become Electrcal Engineer is one thing but to work as employee of UP Govt is another. Culture prevailed in UP before coming of BJP, the emploees were acting like rogues, they boldly collecting illegal money on fake issues. Most of the jobs of consumers is done by men of contractor. Department men are only ensure that contractor’s make money and pass. On their share more
Anyway, we both agree that the main issue is lack of accountability at all levels. Also it is not that easy to become an engineer from specially BITS Pilani which is my alma-mater. more
We agree with you sir. It is employees of power. Orporation who are irresponsible, and indiffrenr more
Frequent power cuts at Noida, more so during mid-night, are highly frustrating. When the Chief Minister UP had given an assurance that Noida will be free of power interruptions and will have 24x7 power supply, why the UP State Electricity board failed to honor that commitment. I fully endorse the observations made by Mr. Padam Law, and feel concerned about the skills & tools used by Linemen & Electricians who attend to complaints concerning power supply failures in different areas. It is a pity that no safety gloves/ shoes are worn by them while climbing the poles, no meters are used for fault detection, no proper cutters/ clippers are available, no electric jumpers are in their possession, to separate overhead cables they use bamboo sticks (which break down with the gust of winds/ storms). A shocking state of affairs in the entire supply & maintenance set up of the organization. Have we really advanced technologically; at least not visible to a helpless consumer. Have the authorities in the Electricity Deptt become so thick skinned & shameless that they care two hoots for the public opinion? They are not even bothered about the safety, training & growth of their own employees. Let this be a wake up call before public frustration crosses the threshold. more
