Real Time Railway Reservation System
1. At present, when TC/TTE start checking passengers tickets, once it is determined that a passenger has not boarded the train,he marks that particular seat unoccupied and he can then alot that seat to wailisted passengers or anyone else. This process involves bargaining money for seat and other malpractices.
2. The present reservation system is not capable of real time update and changes. For example: a train run from Delhi to Chennai.Once the reservation is open for any future date, passengers try to book their ticket at resrvation counter, once all seats are filled then subsequent tickets are given in waitlisted category.
3 Suppose a passenger "Ram" has booked confirmed ticket from Delhi to Jhansi and another passenger "Shyam" has booked waitlisted ticket from Delhi to Jhansi with "WL 1" and "WL 2" status. Now if due to some emergency,Ram didn''t boarded the train and also was unable to cancel the resevation, its not gauranteed that Shyam tiket will get automatically confirmed as only when TTE is able to find out that Ram has not boarded
train,he can then assign same seat/berth to any waitlisted passenger whosoever pays more money to him.
Benefits of electronic checking system:
1. Once TTE confirmed that person has not boarded the train and the seat/berth is free, he can immediately mark that seat as vacant/cancelled in his tablet which connects to railways reservation system(CRES) database over internet.Once CRES database recives the confirmation,it can automatically update the status of "WL 1" passenger and can send him/her notification via SMS message on his/her mobile that his/her seat has been confirmed along with seat number, similiarly a norification is send to software/web-interface in TTE tablet that the vacant seat is allocated to "WL 1" passenger along with passeger ticket details (for example - Shyam). These both notifications can be cross-checked and verified and hence there is no need for any passenger to pay money for getting seat.
2. Will save tons of paper used in printing reservation charts daily. Will be a step forward in support of Go Green initative
3. Considering 15,000 trains and 3 TTE per train, total 45,000 - 50,000 tablets will be required, which can be manafactured by
indian companies at low cost just like "Akaash" tablet,it will boost up indian electronics manafacturing industry
4. It will require only couple of days/weeks training to impart knowledge on how to use the new system on tablets. more
