Recently, I heard about a term called "nakhuna" in the eye. Could anyone please explain

a) what is this?
b) how does it develops in the eye?
c) what are its disadvantages?
d) if it continues to grow, what measures can/should be taken to stop it?
e) can this be cured/removed from the eye and how?
f) Is removal permanent or can recurrence take place?
g) What are its effects on the eye in short/medium/long-term?
h) What precautions need be taken?

Would appreciate guidance. more

While recurrence may or may not be there, your known-to needs to consult his/her eye doctor and follow the professional advice. more
Thank you, my dear Narendraji. Thankfully, you've answered all queries except one.....whether "nakhuna" can recur even after surgery. I had reason to ask because someone v close to us is going through this problem presently and that too at a relatively young age. Hope you understand. To answer your question: no, I'm not a teacher. But then, would only a teacher ask such questions? Anyways, questions asked were to seek help and assistance, not of checking anyone's professional's acumen. Thank you v. much for your explanations. more
Are you a teacher? Covering all these points is beyond the scope of this platform. Otherwise too, an exhaustive article covering these points in detail can fetch a writer a handsome fee from a good primary eye care publication. However, the salient features of `Nakhuna', or Pterygeum, are: This is a conjunctival membranous growth (possibly due to exposure to harmful ultra-violet radiation) visible on the white (sclera) of the eye, with the apex of the triangular structure advancing towards the black (in reality transparent) cornea...and when it advances on the cornea, vision may be affected, and "then it's time to get it operated", advises ophthalmic surgeon Dr. Maneesh Kumar (ophthacare@gmail.com) You may view picture posted separately. more
