Recording of business conversation.

Respected members, whether audio recording of phone calls and personal meetings is okay legally? My question is pertaining to business related matters.

The Supreme Court in the case Pratap Singh vs State of Punjab held that tape recordings are not inadmissible merely on the ground of possibility of their being tampered with. the respective judges opined that the tape recorded conversation can only be corroborative evidence but cannot be direct or primary evidence that the third person stated what other speaker had told. The court can admit the tape recorded conversation if it is satisfied that there is no dubbing tampering and imperfect recording - Indian Evidence Act 1872. more

Sometimes it is a safeguard byt other way it will be termed as blackmail. more

You have to inform the person about recording then only it is legal. Otherwise it is offence, but it will be taken liniently if it is done in public interest. more
