Recreational tours for railway employess

Railways to take hard earned tax payer money and use it for recreation of employees.

Per Indian Express newspaper Soon gangmen, trackmen and other non-gazetted employees of railways will be taken on a foreign trip on government expense purely for recreation purposes.

The Secunderabad-based South Central Railways floated a proposal Friday for a six-day “recreation tour” of Singapore and Malaysia for non-gazetted serving employees. Interested employees have been asked to pay 25 per cent or Rs 15,000 via demand draft.

Railways will pay the remaining 75 per cent from the Staff Benefit Fund, which is created from railway coffers every year and given to all zones for philanthropical purposes which do not extend to a pleasure trip in a foreign land.

It is a real shame that this money instead of being spent on reskilling of railways staff and safety will be used to taken employees to singapore and malaysia.

New Rail Minister is proving to be ineffective. Sorry. more

Let them to do their jobs. What we require from Railways is important for us. 1. Cleanliness at every station. 2. Washrooms to be maintained as per Airport guidelines. 3. Safety of travelers. 4. safety of Railways assets. If we get this it will be better for us. more
Whats wrong? Every institution, government or private does have such funds being created out of their establishment budgets, entirely to be spent for the benefits of the employees, which includes their recreation as well. Is it that being government employees these people does not deserve anything other than salaries? I do not find any reasons to poke in the railways decision with the intention to find out if there is anything wrong or malicious neither there are any reasons to be shamed! more
I believe this is a good move. It would recharge the employees to do their duties more sincerely and honestly. There are many things to learn in Singapore for the non-gazetted employees. more
it should be learning-cum-leisure trip more
Staff benefit fund like other welfare funds should have been created from the part of profits accrued by the Railways besides from various grants from the Govt and Railways and also from the interest or dividend on their deposits.Hence normally the source of income may not be from the contribution from the employees themselves. Also please do not get carried away by the jargon used by the Govt. departments. If it is true then it will called a study tour while in fact it can be paid holiday. Also, rules do not permit free holidays and 25% contribution is desirable to stay within the rules.I am not sure if there are any plans in the Railways to save expenses by reducing operational costs, reduction in Overtime, drastic manpower reduction and also by clipping the official and departmental perks of the Railway employees. We definitely do not need a railways representative for manning ATVMs or even for manning numerous booking windows for computerized booking which can easily be done online. If there are such measures in place or even in the pipeline in Railways, then they need to be publicized for the benefit of the general public. more
