It is 2014, and we use 50-year old design for passenger coaches. They look shabby, use heavy metals, show bad workmanship - e.g. toilets, fans, lights. If they use lighter materials, we will be able to save energy and/or add more coaches and increase carriage capacity. The increased capacity could be used for adding chair cars so short-haul passengers need not crowd up the sleeper coaches. This can be 'made in India' and will help in creating employment and growth. more
Dear Friends We are now in the commerce age. To start something new does not require money. It only requires an idea which can be converted to money. The government is all stretched out and cannot just keep investing in one after other projects. There is a limit to meet expenses. So now the government should go in for ppp type of projects. There are shortage of railway coaches, there is dearth of maintenance staff. In PPP model the government can allow private concerns to build, maintain and run the coaches on a mutual revenue sharing basis. I am sure many firms will come up to fill this void. The firms get to earn revenue from the above model while government stands to benefit without investing a penny. This will rake in more employment and 90%responsibility on the firm. Here run is to mean maintaining the cleanliness of the compartments while in running condition. But the government is required to set up its mind first to set up such modular performance. more
THe Proposal of Mr. Milind Padalkar is every encouraging. THen why a competition of redesign of railway coached is arranged where only the passengers of Railways will participate. Please try>>>> hoping some thing will come out. more
The travel expenses of politicians/govt. machinery need to be curtailed drastically. The quota and free travel passes should be reviewed and cut as it adversely affects the health of railways. A sick organisation cannot think of proper maintenance of infrastructure and upgradation on regular basis. more
